Double hit the Ball???
Gary:
What's the ruling when someone accidentally double hits the ball "Alias TC Chen's it"?
And what's the ruling when someone intentionally hits a moving ball? Like what John Daley did at the US Open a couple of years back.
Is the ruling the same or is there a difference?
Thanks.

T.C. Chen
14-4. Striking the Ball More than Once
If a player's club strikes the ball more than once in the course of a stroke, the player shall count the stroke and add a penalty stroke, making two strokes in all.
John Daly
14-5. Playing Moving Ball
A player shall not play while his ball is moving.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 14-5 :
Match play — Loss of hole; Stroke play — Two strokes.
In the second one, the stroke counts PLUS you add two penalty strokes.
In fact, John Daly's penalty should have been more serious.
The Committee could EASILY have DQ'd him.

One more time?
Gary:
Let me get this straight.
With the TC Chen, by the time the ball comes to rest you count 3 total??? The original, the 2nd (accidental), plus 1 penalty stroke.
With John Daly, you count 4 total??? The original, the 2nd (Dumb one), plus 2 penalty strokes.
Correct????
Just want to get this straight, as it was a big dicussion this week after a round.
Thanks.

1. Double Hit
You hit your tee shot into the rough on a short par 4.
You are lying 1.
You "double" hit your approach shot with a 9 iron.
Result:
The stroke with the 9 iron counts.
You add 1 penalty stroke for the "double hit".
You are now lying 3.
2. Playing a Moving Ball
You hit the green on a short par three.
You are lying 1.
You putt towards the hole, but run after it and hit it again while it is moving.
Result:
The putt counts as stroke.
You add TWO penalty strokes for hitting a moving ball.
You are now lying 4.
In other words, purposely hitting the ball while it is moving costs you one more stroke than "accidentally" hitting the ball again with the SAME stroke.

Thanks
I guess I was wrong the other night.
(I thought you counted the 2 hits plus the penalty).
Thanks for the quick responses.
