Driver shaft question
Hi All,
I was looking for some advice regarding driver shafts. I recently purchased an R9 driver head for my son. He has a swing speed of about 95, is 5' 4", and has a very smooth tempo (like Freddie Couples). I recently purchased what I thought was a good shaft for him on eBay, but I may have overlooked some things
I bought a DIAMANA BLUE BOARD 53 x5ct STIFF FLEX SHAF. But upon reading the finer details of what I bought, I noticed the following:
Length- 41"
Trim- Tipped .75"
The length seems a little short for a driver? So, I am not sure if I can use this in his driver, and/or if it would be a good fit for him? The tip Diameter is the same in the head and shaft.
Any advice?
Thanks

41 inches long is at best a 7 wood shaft. They usually come in standard at 45. if you put this in my guess is it'll play very stiff.

My advice would be to get him fitted for the correct shaft. A smooth Couples like tempo generating 96 mph is not enough data to pick a certain shaft. Heck, you don't even know if the TM head is suited for him.
How old is your boy ?

What's his launch angle ?
What ball speed his he generating with his swingspeed ?
Where on the face does he make contact most of the time ?
What is his angle of attack ?
What lenght of club works best for him ?
What weight of shaft would best suite his tempo?
Should I keep going ?

Artisan Golf
Before you spend anymore money take your son to Don at Artisan golf to get properly fitted for driver and shaft. They open again Feb 2nd.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Break68Obviously you're not a golfer.

As you have the shaft pulled, it seems like it's a good opportunity to get him fit. Although at his age I was going through atleast a shaft or two a summer because of my changing swingspeed, tempo etc. and I began to understand what I like in a shaft.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies!
As for other details, I have not had him on a launch monitor that provides that much detail, so I cannot answer all.
He hits a high-draw, and consistently hits on the inside centre of the club face, slightly low of the centre of the clubface. His natural swing, which he is trying to change some, is a draw...he can draw a 4 iron consistently. Just this past year he changed his grip some (trying to get away from showing 4 knuckels at address - too strong on the left hand), as he really wants a fade that he can go to consistently...kinda the opposite golfer than most I guess.
His current driver is 45", when standing straight-up, and he says he will choke-down slightly for control, if he needs to, and grip it at the top if he wants to let it out.
His swing is very smooth/fluid, and getting faster all the time...as he grows. He's not a pounder of the ball, like myself, and has very little aggression in his swing.
As for angles, I'm not sure. He's an inside swinger with his driver, and drops the club slightly at the top of his backswing, creating a flatter plane...kinda like Sergio.
I'm not sure if this all helps or not?
I've had a couple of suggestions, but most seem to say go with a light stiff shaft, with a softer tip....like the X-CON 5 or a VooDoo SVS6.
Thanks again for all the insight!

I agree with the posts above, no one could give you the answers your looking for except for a proper fitting. To shaft now is a guess at best with the info given, I am not a clubmaker like downshillslider or Chieflongtee but having been fitted I can tell you its the only way to know what shaft is good for your swing.
