The Mandatory "What are your goals for 2007" thread
With all this talk of courses opening, figured its time to start this up again. Some goals might be as simple as playing a certain number of rounds for the year, post away. I'll get us started:
1) As LobWedge said in an earlier thread, to enjoy things more. Something doesn't go my way, so be it. Its just a game. Been trying, but its been tough.
2) Get up over 100 rounds again, missed by a few last year (stupid rainy days). Probably won't happen this year.
3) Keep the handicap around 5, ballooned a bit towards the end of the year, looking to bring it back down. Just got it down to 5.9 after today's round.
4) May possibly compete in the Citizen, and would be looking to make one cut. Didn't enroll this year.
5) Make the Intersectional team at my club. Done, first time ever.
6) Finish in top ten in my flight for Club Championship. I'll be able to answer this one come August.
7) Make it back to the semi finals of the match play. Already into the second round, who knows.
8) Meet more OG members on the course and have a blast. Haven't met too many new faces this year, but have gotten out with friends from the site I had yet to play a round with.
9) And finally, beat the tar out of TGN and LG to bring home the inaugural "Battle of the Golf Sites" competition. GO OTTAWA GOLF!!!! Although we didn't beat the tar out of them, we did win. Maybe the tar beating will be next year. LOL!
byerxa reminded of one more thing:
Improve on the short game (chip, chip and more chipping!) The beginning of the season the short game was outstanding, lately its fallen into a funk. I'll have to get back on that.
See replies in bold. The season is not over, so a few of my goals could still be reached.Last edited by Big Johnny69; 06-26-2007 at 01:14 PM.

1. Play more golf. 2006 was not good and I did not play near enough.
2. Make regular check ups with the swing instructor. I had built up a half decent swing where I was actually happy with the results. But last year I neglected to continue seeing my instructor and subsequently ruined my swing all by myself.
3. Keep improving the short game.
4. Hopefully with the above I can get towards single digits by the end of the year!I don't have an ulcer - I am just a carrier.

I do this every year since I started playing:
1) Keep getting better at “not thinking” while I play;
2) Use all the “guilt free” passes to the driving range and 18 holes of golf (gift from wife and kids);
3) Practice more, go to the driving range;
4) Keep up with the basement putting practice;
5) Increase accuracy and distance consistency - mainly short irons and wedges;
6) Figure out exactly where the ball position should be to get straight and long drives - almost had it down but the birth of my second boy killed my testing;
7) Use only the 60° wedge for everything inside of 95 yds (except putting);
8) Get handicap in the teens or lower - from a 23
9) Break 80, 70.
10) Learn, learn, learn;Back at it.

1- Practice: I need to spend time working on everything within 50 yards. From pitching to chipping and putting. I ruined a lot of good scores with 3 puts and flobbed chips.
2- Physical condition: I'm 25 and I found last year that if I played tournement style golf (72 holes in 4 days) my back would be killing me and my arms would be like rubber. I've already started by going to the gym 3 days a week since november
3- Consistency: Last year i had a number of times where I had a birdie on one hole to only go on to double bogey the next. Also last year I needed a par on the 18th at manderly (north-central) to break 80 for my first time ever with a 79.. I double bogied instead for an 81
4- Distance: who doesn't want more distance off the tee?... but I also want to get better distance control with my irons.. maybe it'll mean my lack of skill with the wedges wont harm me as much.
5- Practice
6- Practice
7- Go from a 17 handicap to closer to a 10 handicap.
8- Practice
9- FUN!! and play more rounds with OG members. only got out for one windy cold round at Mountain creek last spring with 3 other members.Scott - Golf...Fail.

Plain and simple for me. Play more.

Last year my goals were:
- Get my handicap to 15 and hold it. - I reached 12.7 and finishead at a stable 14
- Make the intersectional team - Done, and I earned 1 point for the team
- Play more than 86 rounds (my former average) - Played 115
- Handicap to 12 and hold it (a real possibility)
- Make the intersectional team, and make 3 points (6 possible)
- Play more than 100 rounds (obviously do-able)
- Beat No-Back straigt up, when he's on his game. (I've beaten him a few times before when his game went south)
- Beat "Richard" whenever he "challenges" me. I just couldn't stand the humiliation!

I would say play more golf, but that just won't happen. I have to work and pay rent this summer. That said:
Play as much golf as time, money, and transport will allow
Break 90 on a consistent basis (I would say lower the cap to 15, but I just won't get enough rounds in)
Play a wicked round of golf when I play Bear Mountain
Figure out my bag setup early, and stick with it.
Hope that the Victoria Golf Club will hire me....and then let me play golf there.

Unfortunately for a couple of reasons I'm not likely to get in much golf this year. So I just want to enjoy those games I play.
Just in case I get in more than I anticipate.
1) Break 90 for the first time.
2) Get the handicap down from 24 to 19. (lowest I have been is 23.5)
3) Better chipping (i.e more up and downs, rather than up and putt and putt (and putt?!?))
4) Better putting (see above).

My goals:
1) figure out what kinda job I need to play 100+ rounds in a year!
2) play a bunch of different courses in Ottawa to decide what course I ultimately want a membership at
3) buy the membership
4) shoot a couple of 70s, high or low, doesn't matter
5) get cap to about 10/11
6) get out with some OG members and play well while doing so!
7) have fun, learn.
I've played maybe 10 rounds in the last 3 years, I want to try and have that accomplished by end of May. I hate hitting the driving range to practice, I'd rather have a membership, go and play 4 or 5 holes if that's all I want to play and practice shots with a couple of balls. I enjoy and get more out of "real" practice than range practice.

My Goals For 2007
- Retire-----This goal will be reached on April 30. Although I will not fully retire, I am leaving my current job that I have worked at for 28 years. I will then go work part time at a private golf club.
- Lower my index. Of course last year was basically a right off after open heart surgery. Now that I am pretty much back to normal I really want to get my index back down to the mid single digits. Will I practice more? Maybe, plus I will now have easy access to a CPGA Pro. So this should help if I encounter any major problems.
- Play 125 + rounds. Is this goal obtainable? You bet it is, remember I will be Semi-Retired on May 1. I will be able to golf 7 days a week if I desire. Somehow I doubt that will happen. But I can easily see 4-5 rounds per week. So factor in at least 26 weeks of prime golf weather that adds up to 130 rounds, not counting April and November.
- Meet some new people who are golfers. This will happen while I work part time at the private club. I am really looking forward to working at a different job. After 28 years inside an Auto Assembly Plant this will be a big change of pace.
- Enjoy life to its fullest. Enjoy the company of the people I golf with. Spend some quality time with my wife. (Yes this is possible even while playing 125 + rounds a year)
- Shoot under par for 18 holes. I have been under par for either the front nine or back nine at my course. But not for the entire 18 holes. I would also love to have another Ace this year. I am in a slump!
- Get through the entire year without any major health issues! One summer of that was enough!
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.
-

Simple.
1. Record an ace.
2. Get handicap below 5 and keep it there.
3. Get into the Citizen and make the 36 hole cut.
-
03-21-2007 07:41 PM #28
1. Play more than the 14 rounds I played last year
2. Work hard on the short game
3. Get my index below 18 (I keep saying that Hacker is more than just a handle)
4. Play in all OG organized events
5. Play with as many OGers as possible
6. Accomplish 1 through 5 and still have kids and wife who speaks to me by the time the snow finally flies

My only goals are to play more than I did last year, and to enjoy it just as much.
