The question is has she hit her potential limit or can she get better. if you believe she can get better then given the game she has now there's no reason to believe she can't compete on the pga tour in say 10 years.
But I think you're correct about preperation. She should be playing the hooters tour or futures tour while she's not playing on the lpga or pga. She should be in 25-30 pro tournaments a year. As we saw on the weekend Experience is everything.

I have two girls. My oldest is starting to play golf. If Wie was my daughter and she felt that the girl tourneys were boring her, I would list her up in the boy’s tournaments and boost her confidence before enlisting her in the big leagues. The men’s US-AM would have been an overwhelming test for her game.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

You guys can quote me on this in 20 years, or I'll quote myself. Michelle will never, ever crack the top 125 on the PGA Tour, and she'd never, ever make it through Q school. She is there as an exibition - "See the 16 year old girl that can hit it as far as a man, but has no chance in hell of winning a men's tournament on any tour". She'd make a better living on the LPGA Tour, and that's what she should do.

It's hard to say no to 10 million dollars. I'm not sure any father would turn that down for their daughter. Even if she flops at golf she has enough financial support to put her and her kids through medical school. BJ Wie is a smart man. Michelle has yet to get her drivers license. We'll see how show copes the rest of this year. A third place finish in a major? It's a pretty good start.

Collage golf and men’s amateur tournaments in addition to major girl amateur tournaments would have made her a getter golfer in the long run. Now, there is no way she can downgrade to the futures tour. Her endorsements would get a kick in the nuts by the press.
She has trouble now scheduling golf and high school. She said she wants to go to Collage. That’s impossible if you want to be competitive day in day out. She will not be able to reach her potential until she can commit full time as a pro golfer. When will that be if she goes to collage? It’s at least 2 years before she can play full time on the LPGA.
I see nothing positive out of this other then 8 million $$.

Doesn't this sound exactly like that guy who swore that Weir would never have enough game for a major? Who was that guy, anyway? I don't remember him ever eating crow.

You know how stupid it is for me to bet on MW making it. There's so many elements out of my control other than talent. Desire and a huge one is Health. This is life and anything can happen.
You're simply betting she can't make it. It's based purely on talent and game. Much like picking a hockey game. You know in most cases the intent of the team is play it's best and win. I don't know what her intentions are at this time.

I don't understand the spite and the seriousness of this thread. The poor (figuratively speaking)girl is only 16, and grown men insist on debating her future? This is something that should be done in good fun over a pint of your favourite ale/lager. She's a great golfer, no dispute there, and her future is full of potential - both good and bad. I hope she revolutionizes the game for woman golfers everywhere, and inspires little girls world-wide. If she doesn't, well, so be it, and on to the next phenom.
Cheers

I wonder what vegas has the odds at for Wie making the cut at JD... I would be willing to bet that she does make the cut. For all you talking smack, put your money where your mouths are rather than yapping on a website
Donny, we have one bet going already. Lets bet a round on the masters as well (lets figure something out) and lets bet on wie making the cut. I say she has the game this year to make the cut. You say she doesnt. We'll get the vegas odds when they come out and that is what we will go with. You in? If not, anyone else want to take the bet? I don't think DAN would like us turning his site into a sports gambling site (as he isn't located in the cayman islands, he would probably be thrown in jail with a man by the name bubba.. and I'm not talking watson) so lets get a box of balls, a round or something.
If anyone can google the odds that would be great, i can't find them
She was 500:1 last year to win it all which means she was probably around 9:1 to make the cut which means she is probably 6:1 to make the cut this year. If its around that anyone care to wager a box of balls?

bag to that whole golf thing...michelle wie is obviously a great talent. But she's not PGA calibre, and likely never will be. She's incredibly good for a 16 year old girl. But just because she can hit it far, and is the best 16 year old female to every play golf, does not mean that she is anywhere near the calibre of PGA tour players. She has yet to even prove herself on the LPGA tour. If, in 10 years, she's earned her way onto the PGA tour, that's GREAT for her and for golf. As of yet, she has not. She has not earned her way into a single tournament on the PGA tour. There's nothing wrong with a woman playing on the PGA tour, as long as they have gotten there through merit, as every other player has to do ( a la Whalen). In a few years Michelle Wie will likely dominate women's golf like Annika Sorenstam has done, but I doubt she will ever be a consisten presence on the PGA tour. And Andru, as you want people to 'put their money where their mouth is," I'll drive around with a Leafs flag in my window for a year, if you're willing to do the same with a 2006 Senators Stanley Cup Champions banner in yours.

Lets say $100 came in on every player this year for the masters, the odds add up in such a way that they would make money.. unless someone at around +120:1 won it all. which is very unlikely. And even if it did, so many people beat heavily on favorites that they wouldn't lose even if a huge dog won. If tiger wins, well he is 3-1, they aren't going to lose much money. I've always said to all my friends, I'll cover any bet you guys want to make on tiger, I'll take the field over him anyway at 3-1 odds! Another example.
lets say 1mil comes in on PIT in the superbowl at -3.5 and then 1mil comes in against PIT at +3.5 since they take 10% from the loser (the juice, the vig)so they take the mil from the losers, give it to the winners and pocket the rest. What else, let say ottawa is favoured to win against washington and the money line is -180 (that means you have to risk $180 to win $100 profit). If you want washingtion? You would think the line becomes +180, you bet $100 to win $180 profit but no, the line for the underdog is only +160
so if ottawa wins, they take the $100 from the loser and give it to the winner, if wash wins, they take the $180 from the loser and give 160 from the winner... casinos love it when the dogs win, they get paid!
If you want to win money at a casino, play blackjack. You have a slight advantage over the house and its so small that if you aren't counting cards you are probably going to leave up maybe 10 hands after 1000 hands played.

Everyone keeps saying she hasn't proved herself... how can you even say that? She qualified for the JR US open amateur, she made it to the quarters, she was one shot away from a playoff for a womens MAJOR at the age of 16! Its true she will never be a reguaar fixture on the mens tor but she will make the cut on a mens PGA tour event.

I mean exactly that...she hasn't proven herself. She completely choked on the final hole on Sunday. She had two putts to tie, and instead chipped the ball a solid 15 feet past the hole. She SHOULD have been in that playoff, but she wasn't. As in all sports, it comes down to killer instinct and the ability to finish. Those who can't finish can never be more than mediocre. She, as of yet, has proven herself unable to finish.

Do you have any idea how many free throws lebron james has missed down the strech that would have given his team the win? atleast 5 times by my count he could have won the game... but didn't. Teams started fouling him to get him to the line in late seconds cause they knew he would choke. "Those who can't finish can never be more than mediocre. She, as of yet, has proven herself unable to finish." Does lebron fall into this as well? Lots of people choke, lots of people make mistakes but lets not take away from what an amazing talent she is. She is getting exemptions because she sells tickets, same reason tiger played in saudi or dubai or where ever at the beg. of the season.. he sells tickets and they paid him to come. There will come a time when she demands money to show up to play a mens tourney, and she will get it. Coming tied for 3rd in a major, you can't really say she hasn't acomplished anything. She will get wins, I think everyone forgets that she is 16. I for one and very excieted to see her in the JD and I think she will actually make the cut. Almost made it last year and she is having a great season already. She should do well...

How many games have the Cavs won on his efforts? He has singl-handedly brought that team back from the basement of the NBA. Nobody can finish every time, and that's not what I meant to imply. Michael Jordan missed game winning shots, so did Gretzky etc. The difference is, all these players have proven they DO have the ability to finish - not every time, but they still know how to win. Wie has yet to take that step. Think of Phil Mickelson. sure, he was a good player, but until he won his first major, his ability was constantly being questioned. Nobody questioned his technical skill, but his inability to finish the job when it counted followed him around in the press and forums like this one. He was seen as an underachiever and a choker. Everything changed once he won a major. It is that ability to actually win the big one that makes a great athlete.

She's 16 and doesn't embarass herself at the PGA tour events. Tiger won his first PGA tour event at 20. Michelle doesnt' have the mental toughness of Tiger and probably never will. But she has 4 years to improve and mature. We'll see.

I wouldn't even fly a leaf flag on my car and I bleed blue. It's just a stupid idea. I don't mind people flying the flag on game day during the playoffs. It's looks pretty cool when you have a sea of cars going to the game in Kanata and every second car has a flag. it's quite a sight.
Having that stupid thing on your car all year is just plain tacky.
