..not exactly a rule, but....
I was playing a course this weekend, an older one, established about 1931. It was beautiful, and had just recently been expanded to 18 holes from 9. When I got to the original holes, I was surprised at how small some of the greens were.
Just like there's a guideline about how close to the edge of a green a pin should be, but no rule; I wonder if there's a guideline about what constitutes a ridiculously small green?
(One I played was not more than about 6 or 7 steps deep and 11 or 12 steps wide.)

No Rules about putting green size or hole placement.
As a general guideline, the R.C.G.A recommends the hole be located not less than 5 yards from any edge of the putting surface.

hm... looks like there are ZERO RCGA recommended pin placements on that green. No wonder it was so danged tough.
