Good Bye Stonebridge
Closed next year a good course destroyed.....

Construction operations on the course will consist primarily of earth moving and landscaping works
Stonebridge Phase 16 subdivision construction is anticipated to begin early 2021 when the appropriate approvals are in place

The last thing Barrhaven needs is more homes.

Not to mention destroying one of the better courses in the city......

Bad news for Stonebridge members, but good news for other courses as they will be busier next year thanks to visiting Stonebridge golfers. For the rest of us, I suspect it means more of a fight for good tee times.
You always hit a good shot on 18 to keep you coming back.

Not that I consider Dunderosa a golf course, played it many years ago just for a fun day out,a par 3 9 hole, but it is done and a developer will build on it, seems all the talk about protecting green space is gone out the window...sad

Dunderosa was actually a full 18 hole par 3 course. A fun day as you say. No development plan has been submitted to the municipality, but they are talking of building a hotel on the corner of Notch/Kingsmere and houses further into the course. They also want to make a snow tubing attraction. Chelsea is just a suburb at this point.

I have always loved Stonebridge. It will be a shame that it won't be open next year and it will be reduced after that.

It was sad to see the tractors on the course. More ty built homes. Hopefully the developer gets held up by the City of Ottawa during the application process. All the tie and money to re-design the course, I assume the margin per house is worth it. I can't wait for the next municipal election to vote out the councilors in the area for being cowards and keeping shut during this process. So that's Harder, Meehan, and Moffat.

It was in excellent condition as usual...... My daily drive to work I noticed the tractors tearing into the 6th tee box today..... Have to figure out another course to join and close, maybe Emerald Links....

I still can't figure out why the Homeowners Association didn't just tie this up in the courts for a decade and freeze Mattamy out....I'm guessing there are plenty of lawyers living in Stonebridge that could have picked this up and slllooooooooowwwed it all down to a halt.
That said and with stones already cast, what is the actual situation going forward? Is the course guaranteed to stay open with the redesigns they'll hopefully complete this year, or is this the beginning of an unsure future and almost certain closure?

There was no legal recourse as Mattamy owned the land and the contracts from the homes that do back onto the golf course has a 10-year clause that says they can do whatever they want..... I drive by the 6th hole every day and it's totally demolished.
We will be paying a levy on our city taxes starting this year that goes to purchasing the course, now that it's been pillaged.Last edited by hx101; 02-11-2021 at 09:31 PM. Reason: why not

If you’re paying a levy to purchase the course then why are they redesigning the course now...that part I do not understand. I thought the whole point of purchasing Stonebridge was to keep it intact.

I think the strangest change will be the practice green converted to a Par 3. I haven't seen a plan to build a new practice green yet.

They could have used a bit more of the parking lot I think... I know I for one won't likely be parking there very much in the future.

My doctor has a house that backs onto the golf course. They paid the levy to control development. No houses coming up in their back yards. . He didn’t care if the golf course disappeared.
