Soft stepping.....
Usually done as a single step .... 5i shaft into a 6i head etc. Can a dble step be done .... 5i shaft into a 7i head ?? Wasting the shaft ?? Actually I am taking a set of shafts from blind bore heads and wanting to install some of them into a partial set of bore through Callaways. Thus the dble step to get the desired length. Flex seems to measure ok. Has any fitter done this to set of heads and shafts ??
Thanks for any comments.

Do up one club and if you like it do the others.
Since you are using a through bore head a dbl s s would actually be a single s s roughly.

Did the install soft step as i wanted and really worked out very well did the 7-8-9-P and gamed the irons yesterday. very happy with feel, flex and length no loss of ball distance at all and the ball goes straighter with these irons which is what i recalled and hoped for again !! bought a 4i shaft today to trim and install same way into the 6i head.
very very pleasedif i could only putt !!

Curious question: would soft-stepping only be an option for people who would tend to lengthen their shafts anyway? As someone whose only shaft tweaks are to make them slightly shorter, would that suggest that hard-stepping might be MY only option (which has potential, if I find myself with an excellent set of reg-stiff shafts when I normally swing with stiff ones)?

Soft stepping gave me the extra length but the softer feel ... the flex did not change (good shafts play true to flex) ..... if the opposite is true then the clubs should feel stiffer but still measure R ( shaft dependant again I would think) ..... so ur 5i cut shaft would go in a 4i head .... a 6i cut shaft would go into a 5i head etc etc ..... would then probably have to buy a new wedge shaft since ur wedge shaft would go in the 9i head ..... this was new for me but I am very pleased with the results .....
