Volunteers needed for University of Ottawa Exercise Study (Free Fitness Test!!!)
Are you an adult with type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension?
Researchers at the Human and Environmental Physiology Research Unit of the University of Ottawa are currently looking for volunteers to participate in a study assessing the influence of type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension on the body’s ability to lose heat during exercise, especially when performed in the heat.
Exercise plays an important role in the management of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension. However, studies show that people with diabetes and hypertension are at an elevated risk of developing heat-related injuries when performing physical activity especially in warm environments. This is because these chronic health conditions can impair the body’s ability to lose heat leading to premature fatigue and reduced exercise performance.
Researchers want to examine how these chronic health conditions affect the body’s capacity to lose heat. The information gained from this study will help establish evidence-based guidelines to protect the health and safety of individuals with diabetes and/or hypertension who perform physical activity especially in the heat.
If you want to learn about your physical fitness and are interested in helping researchers at the University of Ottawa call us at 613-562-5800 ext. 4270 or email us at hepru@uottawa.ca. Feel free to check out our website at www.hepru.ca.
Qualifying participants receive a free aerobic fitness assessment (VO2max) and body composition analysis ($650 value). If you qualify for the study, you will also get an opportunity to meet with an exercise specialist to discuss a personalized exercise training program. Financial compensation (e.g. for parking) will be provided.

I am endorsing this project, especially for retired folks or those who may have a flexible calendar. I went to meet Brian and his team at Ottawa U , did the VO2 max and body comp testing. If you meet the criteria this is a worthy cause. It does require some time commitment and unfortunately my work schedule will not permit my participation this time around.
