New Ottawa Hunt Club West 9 video overview

For those who are interested, the renovated Hunt Club West 9 opened Tuesday. I haven't played it yet, hope to get out tomorrow but NoKids probably has 15 rounds in on it already.

Actual hole overviews start arount 1:10 after architect interview.

View of the new range starts at 8:10 of video. Doesn't show new short game area, just the main range which has been open for a couple of months. Incredible range with Titleist NXT balls.

Some interesting changes done. Members should be proud of what the Hunt decided to do and how it turned out.

I'd consider joining just for the new practice facilities

I haven't forgotten about you. I am just waiting for conditions to be 'perfect' to bring guests. I've been burned before

Looks nice... Does the new driving range still have flight restricted balls?

No, they are Titleist NXTs. I think even the pros could hit driver on the range, it used to be a 400 yard par 4.

The "mats" are a ~300 foot continuous artificial turf. The surface is quite soft and forgiving. You can put you tee directly into turf wherever you like. I guess they researched what to use and this is the latest and greatest, Doral just redid their range with the same material. The tees fly out pretty good when you hit them so you go through quite a few of them, but they provide tees on the range.

Not even sure if the grass hitting areas have been open this year or if they will wait until it fully matures.

They have that same turf in the Golf Channel studio as well. Pretty cool stuff.

Course is wonderful. I've only played the new nine once, but four is one of the best par threes in the area. It's framed perfectly. The water on five is very, very much in play. I love the vantage points and lines. When this renovation is finalized, the course is going to be prime. Who knows, maybe someday it might crack that illustrious score golf top 100 list. Royal Ottawa managed to jump to 64 totally out of left field.....what a joke!

Regarding the range, it's unreal. Best short game facility that I've had access to and I've played some pretty nice tracks.

There is a new short game area being built near the entrance. Looks pretty awesome to me.

Played the new 9 today for the 1St time! I dig it... Especially # 5, 20 yard wide fairway with woods on right and water left.

Don't want to thread jack but what's the deal with Royal Ottawa? I've never played the course but have heard this same thing from a number of other people who have.

In all honesty, there's no value in even looking at the rankings. I just played Dunderave yesterday. Decent layout, but cosmetically it's not anywhere near the condition of the Hunt. Regarding Royal, small, quick greens. I haven't played it this year, but it's not a better golf course than Hunt or Rideau View. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder though. The list is very subjective. Not sure how you compare a resort course like Rockey Crest to a private layout in the city of Toronto like Westin or Rosedale. For example, I like Geant in Tremblant, but I don't like Diable. I like the views, but the course is wonky. Again, just my opinion. Others might play Diable and love it.

it's got some odd holes, some forced layups, and in general is a bit underwhelming in terms of the overall layout.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.
