A fine display of sportsmanship by a 12 yr. old
My 11 yr. old son was playing his semi final match in the OVGA jr. match play event at The Meadows this morning.
On the 4th hole East, a par 5, he hits is second shot in to the waste area, 90 yrd. from the green with a watwr hazard a bridge to negotiate for his 3rd.
He catches it thin, hits the steel bridge framing and rolls down just in the hazard.
He walks towards his ball lying in the caw and the next thing I see is my son freaking out, running and screaming. I was up at the green.
He stepped on a wasp's nest and took two stings high on the right ankle and one low on the edge of his left shoe.
Ice packs, after byte and Benadryl were administered and he limped his way to a 5 and 4 win.
While waiting for other to come in after their rounds Jake was feeling very dizzy and lethargic. He says, " Dad, I don't thing I can go back out !!"
This was a side effect from the Benadryl .
The young lad who Jake was to play in the final over herd him say this and I said to him the trophy was his because Jake can not play.
Is opponent replies to me, " No, I want to play Jake when he is at his finest "
As I pick myself up of the floor, I turned to his mother and said " Wow, what sportsmanship ! There is some major parenting going on over there ! "
They are teeing it up tomorrow to decide the winner.
Thank you Louis Seguin ( OVGA ) for making this happen, thank you all who provided comfort and care for Jake, thank you Aiden's mother for being so understanding and thank you Aiden ( opponent ) for displaying such compassion and maturity.
Golf is a lot more than hitting a little white ball.
