Spring Conditions
Not quite sure what this will bring----is it really worth it yet ? Looks like a lot of moisture still in the ground.
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

This could get ugly
You only get out of something what you put into it

My golf shoes have not been waterproofed again yet so I am going to wait a bit since I do not swing well in my rubber boots

I had a time booked for Canadian on Saturday. I called the proshop and asked about conditions and he said there were wet spots, but my feeling is know the course and location it will be very wet. I cancelled, mostly because they are charging full pop, $49+tax to play, and offering a $15 voucher for the next time. Seeing as I haven't played there in almost 10 years I don't see myself going back anytime soon. $49 to play in those conditions. No thanks.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Just drove by Pineview---you can still see water lying on the fairways. I am doing some outside work trying to get the yard finished----it's still well frozen in any of the shades areas---and what isn't will turn to mush when you walk on it. I sure hope there won't be too much damage done opening a wet course.
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

Played Calabogie Saturday - pretty much what you would expect. Soggy parts, dry parts, in between parts. No plugged balls and the greens wintered well, as did the rest of the course.
I was a little dismayed at them letting powers carts out. There are some pretty serious tire tracks in a number of fairways that will still be there in the summer, but I guess the cart revenue is just too good to pass up.Al Gore didn't invent the internet, but he did invent global warming.

Played Mapleview Thursday - decent. Much drier than I had anticipated. Greens seemed rather long and slow but healthy and true. 30 with a cart was the right price point.
Played Manderley Saturday - Extremely disappointed. First off, my fault for not checking the rate. I had just assumed it would be some sort of spring deal. Charging an already extremely inflated weekday rate (for a bottom tier golf course in our saturated market). Wet everywhere. All tees pushed way up. Greens uncut and with holes that seems to be from last year. Opening day in the AM and all were well worn around the hole and depressed.
Played Canadian yesterday - No idea how but the course was pretty much dry. I think we found 2 or 3 standing water areas. That in normal season may be wet post a rain fall anyway. Greens were cut, rolled and very true. I was impressed for this time of year. Price was right considering a 15 dollar voucher for anything next visit. new GPS system in cart ( I was tired !) is light years ahead of the old one.

Played Prescott on Friday - I have to say I was very impressed with the greens. Kept hitting putts past the hole because I couldn't believe they would have that much speed at this time of year. There were a few soggy patches, but mostly just between holes - didn't have a plug all day.

Vieux Moulins greens are terrible. aeration holes have not been filled and ball bounces around like a freekin plinko game.
I think this is the worst i have seen it.

Played Champlain today (9:30 AM) 2 for $42 18 holes *** deal and for the money, its worth it. The fairways are 65% dry and greens are just rough from the holes and uncut grass. But at $1/hole and done in under 4 hours, I ain't complaining.

Played Mapleview in Perth today and was surprised at how dry it was. Greens had been cut and were rolling at a good speed, (or I was just hitting my putts too hard). Even got some roll on the tee shots. Worth the drive up there.

Pineview * @ $22 was good first time out. Not as much water as expected and the greens wintered well but they still have punch marks from last year and are very slow. Took 2.5 hours for our foursome. Staff said they may open main course by week-end.

Played Raceview on Sunday - no wet spots anywhere and greens were good. Not a bad way to ease into the season.
Played Mapleview today - also very dry and greens were in good shape. Worth the drive and you can get cheap gas in Carleton Place on the way back anyway!
