    3 wood trouble

I'm really having a hard time hitting my 3 wood off the fairway, it always goes a mile high. I can barely hit it over 200 yards. I have a feeling I'm hitting down on it too much (usually take some turf), but when I think of hitting down with a wood I think de-lofting the club so why is it going so high!?!

Maybe my angle of attack is too steep? I know when hitting balls at golf town with a driver my launch angle was always really low and it showed the clubface being de-lofted at impact.

Any thought or tips? Maybe I need more of a sweeping motion?

    Thanks

Put the ball in the middle of your stance, instead of in the front. Should go lower, but you will have a bias to go towards the right on any off the deck 3 wood.

in fact it was a joke. i'm no where near a coach lol. anyway the three wood is easy to hit. you sweep more than hit down. it isn't much about your swing as it is your approach to the shot. just hitm through the ball with it forward in your stance and youll be fine.

savosean basically putting the ball in the middle will enforce a downward blow to the ball. keeping it forward applies an upward strike which is much better. his problem is most likely putting the in the middle of his stance like an iron. in fact i would suggest a very comfortable ball position. it usually works best with golfers who struggle with ball position and contact.

The downward blow creates a stinger shot, keeping the shot low to the ground, you want to create extra height on the ball flight you would place it in the front of your stand to get under the ball and let the loft of the club do all the work.

What's the loft and shaft flex on your 3 wood? See if you can try a 13* with a stiff or xstiff shaft.

Its a 15.5 stiff. I've had it a few yrs and have it well, I've been struggling recently with ball flight and distance. Next time out I'm gunna try a stronger grip and really make sure I'm on the right plane. Ah well I'll just keep tinkering until I figure it out.
