At that price I'd recommend a broil king will. Actually, I just looked and Broil Mate, both made by the same company might be a better fit.
something like this would be a great option

Go to Romantic Fireplace and BBQ, they're great guys to deal with can help you in your search for what you need.
Also, check out www.eatapedia.com for killer recipes. You'll be able to find these local boys in the pro category of the BBQ comp at the Gloucester fair this coming weekend.

Buddy spend the extra 200 - 250$ and go with a broil king over the broil mate they are more heavy duty with better grates and heat distribution, no comparison. I have had my 600$ broil king for 8 years now and it is still mint.

Have you considered Charcoal?
We typically bought in the range you listed, and after the last one went I opted to pick up a Charcoal grill. Ended up being 150$ (bonus!) for a Webber and we absolutely love the taste of the food coming off of it.
Pros:
Cheap as Hell
Damn near indestructible (there's nothing to them)
Tastes better (in my opinion)
Can be setup to run hot enough to make pizza (900f)
Cons:
Bit of an art to cooking on them - I get better every time (heat control can be tricky)
Take a while to warm up (although the chimney's help)

We just got it this spring and already know we won't be switching back to gas any time soonNCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

Charcoal is awesome. I have a big green egg and it's great so far.

I have been a Weber 'q' user for 20+ years and in that time had but only 2 bbq's, they are built to last. Can't beat the taste of charcoal but gas has it's advantages too. Have never been keen enuff to try and start the charcoal in January when the wind is blowing. If you even think of going charcoal, go Weber.

I picked up a Big Green Egg about a month ago. Charcoal tastes way better. I haven't used the gasser since.
I realize that the BGE is out of the price range so I would definitely recommend going with a Weber Charcoal. IF you insist on a gasser then spend the extra $$ and still get a Weber Genesis.

if you get a BBQ, make sure it is big enough to host the East victory over the West for 2012 !!! lol
