question on how to round your handicap

I'm a new player - I've put my first 6 rounds in the handicap calculator on this site, and it spits out my handicap factor as 29.8

From what I understand of the new handicap rules, you are supposed to take an 8-max if you are 20-29 and a 9-max if you are 30+

Am I supposed to round my handicap to 30 and play 9-max? Or do I belong in the 20-29 group?

29.8 will not be your handicap as it is a your handicap factor. Each course that has a rating has a chart that you should look at to find your actual handicap depending on the tees that you are playing. The handicaps are full numbers and not fractions. You can go to the Golf Canada web site and check it out or search on here for this topic as it's been discussed before.

Ok great thanks, I just read the section on how to calculate your handicap on the Golf Canada website.

If I understand correctly your course handicap = (handicap factor) * (x / 113), where x is the slope for the course and tees you are playing.

I've always just used the chart or checked the course handicap on Golf Canada's site where I enter my scores as it has an area for checking the course handicap for any course and it gives it for all the different tees available.
