Direct Energy Hot Water Rental Contract
My wife told me that the news had an article on a new Direct Energy contract that is being forced down on people who have hot water rentals. I didn't completely understand what she was explaining but I did get a new contract in the mail last night with my current gas bill.
Did anyone catch this on the news last night, or has anyone done some further investigation into the new contract, and what they plan to do?

The news had an update last night and apparently Direct Energy has decided to cancel the new contracts due to a high volume of customers calling in demanding they stay on the old contract or to have their heaters removed completely.
If only people would do the same to Bell and Rogers each year, maybe we wouldn't be paying the ridiculous costs for Cable & Internet.

I can confirm that Direct Energy has backed off on this one. I called them this a.m. and they have a message advising of such. I stayed on the line in order to confirm with a live body. They confirmed it.
I am now researching purchasing a hot water tank. I am really fed up with this type of negative marketing and sales pitches from these guys. For some reason, Ontario appears to be the only province where people consider it normal to rent a water heater? I've been thinking about making the switch for a few years now - this just pushed me over the edge."If profanity had any influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be a lot easier than it is" - Horace Hutchinson (1903)

Renting a water heater is the biggest scam going. Buy a water heater if you can afford it. We own ours and one burst last year. We bought a new one from Francis Heating and Plumbing, they do all our work now. They are very reasonable.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

Ours burst too so we bought our own and had it installed. Save money, better tank which is more efficienet and holds more water. I wanted the tankless heater but it was a bit too much.

We looked at tankless as well but it was way more expensive than a new tank.
