Drill to reduce driver backspin???
Was in the GT simulator in Kitchener recently. I know the numbers are skewed as I tend to hit 20-30 yards more in there with their clubs LOL! Anyhow, one number that may not be 100% correct, certainly matches what I see on the course/range.
With a driver, I create a couple thousand more backspin RPM than needed. On the course, my ball comes off the club like a rocket, has a nice launch angle but then slowly keeps climbing steeper until it tops out, drops to the ground and has very little roll.
The salesman watching me (and I know I do this) says I am transferring my weight to the front foot early and driving down on the ball, thus creating the spin.
Is there a drill that I can do that will help with this?
Cheers
Paul

You could try to use a heavier shaft and keep all other things equal. In order to reduce your spin you have to reduce your spin loft. Spin loft is created by the difference between the angle of attack and dynamic loft( loft of the club at impact) Getting on a flight scope or trackman will help so you can see what these two numbers are. You need to learn to swing up on the ball with the driver and have a lower dynamic loft. Try to keep your hands infront of the ball at impact to help lower the dynamic loft. To hit up on the ball you need to keep your head behind the ball and hit it slightly from the inside out. Make sure that you set up with a bit of a tilt behind the ball to start as this will help.

Out of curiosity, do you also slice the ball?

With my Cobra FP irons (slight offset) I have a slight draw but with my L5V Driver (no offset, 1deg face adjustment) I have a light slice 75% of the time. When I slow my swing tempo down a swing easier, I hit it straight with less ballooning.
I wouldove to try this clubhead witha slightly softer shaft.
