Curious... how strict are they on the handicap requirement at the Citizen? I was tempted to throw 200$ into the fire, but I'm a couple strokes above the advertised 8.0 hcp requirement.

Does it really matter what club you use as long as it gets there? I played with a guy on Monday who used his 5 wood for most of his approach shots 130, 150, 160 yds, didn't matter and he was hitting the green for the most part.

For me it is a topped or a fat 5-wood, followed by a wedge
Is the Pope catholic? Does a bear crap in the woods? Does Ricky Fowler wear orange on finals Sunday?

lol for me its a fat 6 iron, followed by a 9 iron which flys higher than it does long, (almost a flop shot), followed by a short chip and 3 putts...

Have to change my selection to 6 iron. I'm not hitting near as far as I did even last year. Can't figure it out. But I am hitting the ball much straighter so I'm not complaining!

Simple: hit your 170 yd club. For some, that might be a seven iron; for others it might be driver. We are all at different levels of proficiency !

i dont really understand your comment. This thread is asking which club you would hit from 170 yards. It isnt asking how good of a player you are or how effective you are from that distance. So if you arent comfortable answering that question, then ignore the thread and move on.

And I don't understand your comment. I am very comfortable answering the question and I will repeat my answer: the club I would hit from 170 yds would be my 170 yd club. Some days that might be my 5 iron; some days it might be my 7 wood, or even my 3 wood. But that's just me and how I might be playing that day. For you and anyone else out there, it would likely be a different club.
If you don't like that answer, then perhaps you might consider ignoring the thread and move on.

Yesterday at Outaouais I absolutely flushed an 8 iron from the first cut... I didnt hit it hard just a nice easy swing. I was trying to lay up to 100yds. It went high wtih a slight draw, landed and stopped....I measured it with my Skycaddie at 186yds! My 8 iron is normally 140yds!
left me a pesky 50yd pitch but whatever I had for breakfast yesterday I should have again...crazy game

This reminds me of a quote I read from Sam Snead. The story was in Golf Digest but I cant remember the issue. He was asked on the range what club he would hit 100yds. Looking confused he said "I could hit any club 100yds depending how I feel and what I'm trying to achieve" He then proceeded to hit every club in his bag to the 100yd marker
