Here is an article I found on this topic...

I prefer laser, because I think it's more accurate IMO.

I love my GPS (SkyCaddie) and wouldn't go with anything else... but it is a personal choice!
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

I had the same dilemma and decided on a GPS (Callaway Upro Go). Majority of the better lasers are more expensive and I got a good deal on the GPS. I wanted a device to assist me in judging distance at a low cost. My golfing partners are always asking for the yardages, at a price!!!!

I've used both, and prefer the laser.
Pros: More accurate, travels anywhere, don't have to worry about clouds, etc.
Cons: Not as good at showing overviews of holes, distances on blind shots. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Used a laser for a couple of years now can't imagine playing without it. Played with a guy who was using GPS last year and he kept asking me to verify his yardages. It was generally within about 5 yards of mine but we had one funny one where the GPS was telling him 45 yards and it was closer to 45 feet. Never had the laser do that.....

I've had a bushnell laser, and a skycaddie sg 2.5.
I love my skycaddie. I've checked it a few times side by side with a laser, and its always within a yard. It also keeps track of my score very easily, and a bunch of other customizable stats if I wish.
I really like the clubSG where I can review my scores and the scores of friends and fellow competitors (same course same day feature).
I like it so much I am considering the upgrade to the SGX.Andrew

Laser for me, I use it mostly for approach shots and Par 3's when I need to know the distance to the pin and I like having an exact number in my head. I don't use it much other than that, except when playing a new course and need to know distances to hazards, etc.
My fear with a GPS is not having the course downloaded when I go there and being "naked". I think the uPro addresses this in its simplest form as there is no subscription.I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Really depends on what you want out of the unit: if it's yardage, I prefer the laser. If you want any of the other features, a gps has the upper hand. A good overview, and the ability to move the target marker to get exact distance to reach and carry obstacles is very nice, as well as the programs for tracking stats. I still believe the SkyCaddie is the most dependable, accurate gps. They are still the only guys who measure every course on site.

The laser is a good choice (both have their pluses and minuses). Just be sure you treat the laser gently (as suggested in the link to this Golf Digest article).

As they suggest, treat it like the precision device it is (just like you'd treat a camera) and it should last you a good long time. If it gets banged around the laser can lose its alignment and you won't be able to range targets much beyond about 100 yards.

I have played with both and for accuracy it is the laser. GPS will speed up the game but accuracy goes to the laser.
