Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy
Who should win the Rocket trophy this year?
Sid at 51 in 81 games?
Stamkos at 51 in 82 games with a poor team?
Ovy with 50 in 72 games with NHL power house team?
I think Stamkos should win it considering the team, his age. Should also be considered the come back player of the year.

I don't think it is a choice. Most goals wins... Its a tie. I could be wrong as I so often am

I think the guy with the most goals should win it.

If I recall correctly, Lemieux had more goals then Wayne one season and Wayne won it and not Mario. It might be points but there was controversy about something like that.
Nonetheless, it’s a tie at 51. Who would you choose and why?Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

it's only been around for 11 years or so. Mario/Gretzky never won it.

They tied so they share the trophy. It isn't a popularity contest decided by votes.

I did a bit of research because I remembered something of the sort. I was mistaken. It was the Hart and not the Rocket.
In 1988-89 Mario had 199 points and Wayne had 168 points. Wayne won the Hart. I remember the controversy.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

Yes the "Rocket" trophy is an achivement award and not through votes. Just like the masters give out crystal goblets to any making eagles, crytal vase for low score etc..at the Masters. Expect Phil to rent a U-Haul to bring back more stuffs than patrons at the gift shops..

Mike, you are confusing the Art Ross (most points) and the Hart (most valuable) trophies. For many years the Hart was given to the player with the most points, but for the year in question, you are talking about Wayne's first season in LA. He took a last place team and made them a cup contender. That's why he won the Hart over Mario that year. The Pens were already a solid team that season, but not to take anything away from Mario.
As for the tie breaker about goals, to determine the Art Ross trophy winner in the event of a tie, most goals scored is the tie breaker. It happened to Gretzky his first season in the league. He tied Marcel Dionne in points, but Dionne had two or three more goals, so he was awarded the Art Ross trophy.

Yep. That’s old news. In post #4 I thought it was the Rocket trophy that year but in post #7 I researched it and corrected it. My bad.
I don’t follow trophies because I’m usually playing golf that time of the year. ;-)Strive for perfection, but never expect it!
