No more mess
No more solvent, no more grip tape, no more stinky smell. Great stuff.

Cool. Probably wouldn't work on Winn grips though since they don't like to expand too much.
Do you actually have one?

No. But planning to get one in the future. It also means getting a compressor. It will pay for itself in the long run though. I will ask the question regarding Winn grips on another forum and get back.

Winn grips.
Got the following from the expert in the matter. His name is Arnie and knows golf clubs and all that is related to them inside out.
Quote:
It is the best way to install Winn Grips. We do a contract assembly job on a product that uses Winn Grips and can install up to 2,500 Winn Grips per day using this method. Never lose a grip!. Just dip the mouth of the grip in solvent (mineral spirits) start it on the shaft and "blow it on". Winn Grips are an odd core size so we install them over one layer of ordinary 2" wide masking tape which increases the shaft diameter a small amount. On customer clubs I have blown on Winn Grips over as many as 7 layers of masking tape! They sure do stretch, contrary to what another poster wrote.

Thank you Arnie.

Well that answers that question.
Unfortunately I don't own a compressor either, so it looks like the tape and solvent route for me.

Arnie has also told me about a cheaper way than the Star grip blow gun. I'll ask him if it's ok to post it here and will get back. I have also invited him to join the Ottawa Golf forum as we could use his knowledge and expertise. All and all I think the investment would be $100. Canadian.

Here's more from Arnie.

I don't know about the one from Star Grips but mine works on ANY grip that
has a vent hole in the butt (never seen one that doesn't).
Buy a blow gun ($3-$4) get an "inflator tip" (brass if you can find it rather
than aluminium). An inflator tip is tapered with steps and is used to inflate
"beach toys". Put the inflator tip threaded end in your electric drill and
turn it against your belt sander belt to remove the last (closest to tip) two
steps to make the end into a parallel sided "tube". Mount this with teflon tape
to seal on the blowgun. There you have the blowgun for about $5.
Always use a "protector tube" when removing grips. Mine is an 11" length of
reinforced vinyl hose (high pressure hose from Home Depot) with inner diameter
large enoung to force in a piece of "shaft tube" (those worthless tubes that
are put in golf bags to "organize" your clubs or destroy the finish on graphite
shafts). Warm the high pressure hose (softens it a bit) and force the WD-40
lubricated shaft tube into it the full length. Doing this makes the hose more
rigid and makes it keep its round inner shape. I know this sounds like more
work than using 1.25" PVC but I found that the PVC is a little too large and thus
causes more "bursts".
When removing some stubborn grips you need to shoot some mineral spirits
(grip solvent) into the vent hole with a squirt bottle before applying air. Just
drape a rag over the mouth end of the grip to catch the solvent spray when it
finds its way to the mouth end! Winn Grips are actually quite easy doing it
this way. Putter grips are very easy. The most difficult are GP Tour Velvets
which require (at times) some help 3-5" from the mouth with a wire grip removal
tool (but these are very rarely saved unless logoed). Funny how the hardest part
to break free does not have grip tape underneath it!
Star grips have even wall thicknesses and are easy to put on or remove with
air.
Once you install a Winn grip with compressed air you will think you
discovered the new world! Absolutely effortless, fast and never a "lost grip".
