    Zuback's Ball Speed World Record

This is what 204 mph looks like in super slo-mo. Unreal!

I only think of Miami Vice when I think of jai alai. Pretty cool video of Zuback though, that guy's turn is incredible.

Think of it this way. A jai alai ball weighs slightly less than a puck. Now imagine that coming towards you almost twice as fast as the average NHL slap shot.

Pretty cool clip. I wonder if they're going to start testing for performance enhancing agents in Long Drive Competitions...

I suppose that they could have gotten it to go faster if they juiced the ball instead of regulation specs. And I'm thinking that a sport that you get killed playing just isn't a sport. Where would the cart girl park on the jai-alai court?

    funny

what i found weird about that was his first two swings had a hard time passing 185,, then his 3 swing goes like 15mph faster then his first 2 ,,,that's a big jump in speed ,,unless he wasn't giving it his all in the first 2 swings ,,,

    Long Drive in Canada

Yes, they will be testing for performance enhancing drugs in LD this year.

Jason's speed is pretty high, but there are a number of LD Pro's that have exceeded 215mph ball-speed. Pretty incredible stuff.

The LDA also just made an announcement about a new LongDrive franchise in Canada.

I have personally met Jason and have watched him hit both on the driving range and in competition. He definitely puts "his all" into a golf swing and that takes both increditable strength and perfect timing.

The first time I met him was in Montreal at a Casino Long Drive event put on by Accuflex golf shafts and SMT components. Jason had a tour bag full of Cobra drivers accompanied by his own personal club making engineer from Acushnet who was checking the bulge and roll on the face of each club to ensure that the faces were not collapsed before he went into the competition.

Imagine having an engineer using club face gauges while the others were using a friends cigarette box! (you know your in the big leagues when that happens!!)

From what I have observed in watching many long drive tournaments over the years, is that it is not uncommon for long drivers to win the event using their last 5th or 6th ball. I think that like in any sport the warming up and timing has to be there, plus it also matters greatly if the ball hits purely on the center of percussion of the club face which maximizes the the C.O.R. of both the ball and club face. This may be the added MPH which was needed for Jason the hit his home run ball.

It is very humbling to see him hit a long ball.

Nice "You Tube" promo.. it brought back good memories..thanks.
