Ryder Cup Style Event Coming Together

Well, a temporary date has been chosen. Myself and the other captains have been in discussion and we have set up the format.

To all that have shown interest, I've decided to go with a hand picked team. Organizing a qualifier is just too much for me right now, and seeing how I would like to be part of the qualifier I'd rather we just put in on the back burner and maybe we'll go that route next season. I've sent out pms to the players I am considering for the team (basically a "Who can make it offer", but if some can't, I have a long list of interested parties and I will pm you if there is a spot open). The team will be revealed once we have confirmation of the date and confirmation from players.

So here goes:

Tentative Date: May 26 and 27
Venue: Trillium Woods in Belleville

Format:

1) Twelve man teams divided into 6 two man teams (no individual play, all team play)
2) Divisions of three teams (one from each forum) that will play crossover games against teams in another division (you'll never play a team from your own forum).
3) 1 pt for a win, 1/2 for a tie and 0 for loss. Each team plays two games.
4) Two points will win the division, the forum with the most points takes the bragging rights.
5) Playing formats: Still undecided, but going to be either 9 holes of best ball and 9 holes of alternate shot or 9 holes of best ball and 9 holes of scramble.

Rules:

1) Teams cannot have a combind cap of more than 18 using the 1/2 combined cap or 3/4 combined cap (depending on styles we choose to play)
2) Captains are responsible for validating player's handicaps
3) Have fun, meet some new people and hopefully play some good golf.

Pretty simple format. I know some showed interest in coming down to support their local forum, so I thought I'd post the tentative dates. We are putting a push on everyone to get back to us ASAP so we can change the date if need be.

Should be a blast, and GO OTTAWA GOLF!!!!

I was a member of Team West in the Ryder Cup style held last year for TorontoGolfNuts members, and could provide valuable insight into their players strengths and weaknesses now that I am a resident of Ottawa.

My 18 handicap pretty much does our team in though. Do we have enough scratch and/or plus handicaps to make up the difference?

I think we have a final format and rules:

-2 day event
-2 man teams, a combined cap will be determined using 3/4 of each player's cap
-front nine of each match will be best ball
-back nine of each match will be alternate shot
-Tie breakers: will be determined by total strokes (lowest of course is best )

Update:

The dates are reserved. Also got some pricing info for everyone. We are getting a really good deal. Regular weekend green fees for Trillium Wood (2006 prices of course) were $52.00+ 7%GST. We're are getting each round for $44.00 + tax. And if you'd like a cart its $13 and change + tax.

So $88+ GST for two rounds of golf on a weekend at, from what I hear, an excellent course. Still waiting to hear back from a few players, but the team is coming together nicely.

The team will be revealed soon enough. Just two more confirmations needed, if any of those pass I'll have to dip into my reserves.

Just a side note for players on the team. I have been in discussion with some of the confirmed team members and some might be going to the course to play a practice round on the Fri. Once the team is announced and anyone interested in that, by all means set up something. Or we can always try to set something up for another weekend before the event. I know most have not played the course before, myself included, so a practice round might not be that bad an idea. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Still waiting for one more confirmation for a team member, but tee times have been reserved.

First tee time on Saturday May 26th will be at 1PM. This gives those London lads enough time to get to Belleville.

First tee time on Sunday May 27th will be at 9:30AM. Gives us a bit of sleeping in to do and won't keep us from getting home too late.

A big thanks to Mule56 from TGN (I think he goes by TWoody here on OG) for orgnanizing the rates and times. That was a big help, thanks alot.
