Guiness World Record Attempt
One of the guys that works for me is making an attempt at the longest snowmobile trip. He has accumulated 3 months time off and will be leaving December 27th for a 27,000 plus KM snowmobile ride The current record is a little under 12,000 KM His snowmobile has been equipped with a GPS tracking device and he will be posting to a website we setup for him at the end of each day. Last year he did 4000 KM in a little under 2 weeks so I don't doubt he can do it.
If you would like to track his record attempt and view a profile of why he is doing this, have a look at www.snowodyssey.ca
OH ya I forgot, you can also wish him luck and provide your support by posting via the contact us button on his website !Last edited by Indio; 12-08-2006 at 09:43 PM. Reason: additional info

WOW, what a trip this will be. I hope his sled has extra padding, 27,000 kms on a sled is a long long ride!
Best of luck to him, I hope he sets a new World Record.
Hey Indio, have you ever thought about trying to set a World Record? My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Will do gentlemen. We are having a little party for him at work just before he leaves..... not my idea of a 'winter vacation' but I guess we all have our priorities!

I will let him (and his lovely wife) know you think so! He has done some incredible things in life but this just may be his biggest feat yet. (Building a very large 2 story log cabin without power, cutting and milling his own logs was his last challange that he completed after a few years.... something tells me this won't be his last big project!

Yves left as planned on the 27th at 10AM. He has run into some problems with no snow in the Quebec north shore portion of his journey but is ahead of schedule and has just taken a different route to get to Edmonston New Brunswick. He has a real time monitoring map setup now on his website

I notice he travelled our region by truck... Not surprising as all the trails are closed. It would be nice to meet him if he comes in our region...
Good luck to the whole organization..

His sponsors are taking good care of him and the snowmobile maker has made arrangements for maintenance at predetermined locations..... He also has skido club members across the country keeping him company on much of his ride until he hits the far north..... He said hundreds of people had joined up at one point or another to ride along side and wish him well

Several people at work were talking to him the other night and he says he has never ever met such warm and welcoming people in his entire life. He says that every place he has stopped, they have opened their doors and their hearts for him. One place he stayed provided him a meal, a warm bed for the night and when he got up real early the next morning to leave, the entire family was there waiting to say goodbye and wish him well and his gas tanks had been filled for him and a lunch bag for his next 12 hour trek! He sure is meeting some great people!

This is an amazing journey to say the least. It is good to hear that people are treating him so well. I am sure it makes the days seem shorter for him. The fact you can see his progress on the website is also really neat.

Yves has just about reached the record. He has about 1800 KMs left to go for the record and he hasn't reached the half way point of his trip yet... last I hear a couple of days ago, he was up in Alaska. He is doing well and meeting tons of friendly people on the way.... having a bit of trouble with the sled... wearing out tracks and belts kinda quick.... mind you he has put about 10,000 KMs on it in about a month. He believes he will break the record over the weekend or Monday.

For those that were following this, Yves just called to say that as of 11:00 in High Level Alberta, he broke the Guiness World Record for the Longest Snowmobile Journey.
He has reached 12,000 Kilometers and counting. Yves is scheduled to end his journey March 17th in Mont Laurier Quebec, where it all started on December 27th.
Congrats to Yves and his support team across Canada.
