From Ontario government website:
“Ski hills, golf courses and driving ranges are closed.”

Check it again. Apparently that was an error and it's been updated.
'Emergency Brake' section now shows courses as being open.

Good news but this flip is another example of total incompetence

In the Grey zone description, it reads that outdoor dining (patios) are allowed but I just watched the ctv news at 6:00 and they indicated that patios will be closed. I really hope courses and ranges are really allowed to be open in the area.

Any word on if the upcoming stay at home order (rumored) will extend to golf?

Have to assume it will - these public health officials are incapable of using common sense even a year later.

Yes, i hope courses stay open as it really is a stress relief in these crazy times, same as fishing, biking running etc.. The stay at home thing, not sure how thats gonna be enforced.

What a colossal mess
----we have a pandemic and we also have beaurocrats. I don't think any of the governments across this country ever listened to the doctors and scientists. They do what they to do to appease their lobbyists. Sure there may be a few exceptions but on the whole this handling of the situation starts right from the top. ONE YOUNG KID TRYING TO RUN A COUNTRY ON HIS AGENDA !!!!!
As I said in another post 1 step forward and 2 back. In all seriousness this pandemic has not really effected me except for the fact that we don't see friends or family---------my game tomorrow ?????? Well that's another story---if that is all I have to worry about then I am a sad case. More days ahead--stay home and rake the grassDoes the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I think it's the opposite. Elected officials are deferring constantly to public health officials who are committed to authoritarian methods and have no clue how to balance competing interests (ex. economics, mental health, etc.). Ford has been spineless throughout and has flip flopped all over the place as the public health officials get it wrong over and over. There's no science happening at the highest level of governments, but it's not because elected officials aren't listening to public health officials. If anything, it's the reverse.
Etches is particularly terrible. She's made insane statements like "We can't vaccinate our way out of this" and just this week suggested we should wear masks outdoors. None of that is based in science.

Unless they change the Stay-At-Home act, I assumed the golf courses/ranges are still open for business and you are allowed to use it for "exercise". I hope the word "amenity" means the course and not the portable potty
16. Exercising, including,
i. walking or moving around outdoors using an assistive mobility device, or
ii. using an outdoor recreational amenity that is permitted to be open.

It's pure optics and PR. There is no scientific basis for shutting down any outdoor-based business, but it would 'look bad' to keep them open. That's all there is to it, unfortunately.

It's a business that are allowed to be open during lock-down like the big box grocery stores, I don't see why not. The tape off play grounds were because those were closed. However they could change it in a flash and reword the stay at home act does not allowing any recreational facility to open to public and that will be end of story.

And of course you can still go to landfill to dump your garbage
"The landfill won't be affected by the provincial shutdown, the city said. There is a limit of 10 vehicles at one time"

Adding to the insult ...
"Ottawa could break temperature records tomorrow and Friday"

NEW: Golf courses will, in fact, stay open (or be allowed to be open), I'm now told.
My reporting below was the most up-to-date as I had it, and, well, things change. Sorry for the confusion and happy golfing.

He's been right in the past - has connections I guess.
I assume outdoor activities in general will be allowed. Which makes sense. The government should be encouraging people to be outside rather than huddled up close together indoors (many people will still gather privately). It's so easy to distance outside.
