Wie loses 5 and 4 in the quarters
Great run. Too bad it's over. She didn't bring her game from yesterday.

Pretty great performance for Wie, she may have gotten a bit tired. Although she is only 15.

Gee, I'm sooooooooooo sorry to see her lose. Hootie can sleep well tonight. Just proves that she's not ready yet to take on the big boys. Nuff said.

I wouldn't call losing 5 & 4 in the quaters a great performance. What about the those players who are still in it? How would their performance be described?

Yup, and when the TV interviewer mentioned that, she was suprised. She had no idea. She is obviosly just playing her game and not overly focused on goals.
Good for her.
Remember she's still a child.

People need to get over the fact that she is a female. Accept the fact that she is an unbelievable talent and likely will be a dominant force in golf in years to come!!!!

I don't think it has anything to do with people not being as good as she is at that age. I think people for the most part are closed minded and unwilling to admit this girl has some serious game. Some people just can't let their minds open to another point of view..
Just out of curiousity how old were the competitor's she was playing against? I have no idea. Did she get beaten by someone older or around the same age?

Did you see her fisrt match? The guy (who also was a kid) basically handed it to her.
Your point about if Wie was a male is misguided and incorrect.
Wie is considered a phenom because she is a 15 year old FEMALE & can hit a ball 300 yards. I can tell you for sure there are plenty of 15 year old boys who can hit the ball as far as Wie if not further but they aren't getting all the attention she is because she is a female.
Her being female is precisely why she is getting all this attention.

You can't draw a conclusion from one match. You can't project data from one point on the graph. I'm not saying all the speculation isn't annoying, but Wie isn't doing it, the news/media are. Hate them.
Wie is a great golfer according to Ernie Els, Tiger Woods and her fellow competitors at the recent match. When asked this question: "do you think you were as good as Wie is at 15", her PGA professional competitor at Deere classic said "Hell, she might be better than me now." Very big of him.
I'll take the opinions of professionals thanks, and we'll all just see in 15 years.

Is she was really better than a PGA tour winner she wouldn't have been knocked out of the US amateur in the quaters. Get over the HYPE.
Oh yes, & don't forget to post the "hate on Wie" quote either...

I did post a quote, try reading before posting.
Theres no point in arguing, the proof will be in the pudding.
By the way, I'm not saying she'll be the next Tiger Woods, Im just saying why not wait and see.

Okay, I don't know how I can make this any simpler.
daveandyk wrote "why everyone hates on Wie" - this would imply there has been a post saying either "I hate Wie" or "I hate on Wie" - I can't find either.
davedndyk is defending Wie, not that that's required.
So my point is NOBODY said they hate Wie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...and if there is someone who does hate Wie, please make yourself known...

Hmmm, You asked Golfpeasant "Who is "he" & where is this posted? "
The "He, & the post" Golfpeasant refered to was the one by dave in post 8 of this thread, so I guess you wanted to ask that question to dave then?

What a stupid thread.
She's awesome. Probably better than all but 3 or 4 golfers in Ottawa, Plays extremely well in the Public Links. Good enough to recevie an automatic entry into next years publinx anyway.
Misses the cut in a PGA tour event by a couple of shots.
Is she getting more attention because sh'e 15. Absolutely. and rightfully so. Youngest to win a non-junior USGA event. Youngest to finish top ten at the Women's US open.
She's not just a female but a tremendous golfer. This is huge sports news a woman shattering the gender barrier and competing on the PGA tour against the men. Not only is it great for golf but it sets a superb example for all of the daughters out there.
If you have a daughter, this is something you want them to see. You can do it, if you believe you can.

Right now, IMO she is not good enough for the PGA, but do I hate or resent her? No way.
Maybe I would feel more threatened by her if I was a better golfer, but since she's already miles ahead of where I am, or will ever be it's not a concern.

Oh I see. My point was that he didn't say anyone "hates" Wie, he said everyone is putting a "hate on"...two different things. "Hate on" does NOT mean "I hate Wie", it means "I think its a waste giving her an exemption".
No one said they hated Wie, but lots are putting "the hate on"...its slang for putting her or her skills down.

You critics remind me of those nosey neighbours who criticise the kid next door that received an expensive new car at 18, saying that the kid should have started with a beater and "should earn it instead"....."learn the value of money"....blah bla bla.

Not necessarily that Michelles parents are doing the wrong thing, but look at the 2 best players on each of their tours, Tiger and Annika. Tiger DOMINATED junior and college golf, and Annika played all through college as well. Now I will say that perhaps Annika isn't the same because she wasn't as great of a golfer then as she is now.
But so far the formula for major success is to learn to dominate and win before anything else, and Michelle hasn't done that. Maybe she'll prove us all wrong, and I hope she does because it would be HUGE for golf. I just haven't seen that way of doing it work yet, but I'm sure I'll be corrected here.

Theres a huge difference between the pros and the cons. Neither has the data, as Wie hasn't done a professional career yet: but one is hopeful, and the other is not. You can explain the hopefuls, but why be negative at all? It makes no sense. Did Ty Tryon replace Tiger? No. Did Ty Tryon say he would? No, the media did.
Don't hang him, or her, for media.
