    Graffalloy Blues...

Picked up my Graffalloy Blue Stiff re-shafted SMT Spectrum from Golfworks today and headed to the range. Hit ~24 clean drives, liking the combo, then on # 25, snap! The head went flying 100 yards...
    Is this common?

exact same thing happen to me

picked up a grafallot blue s shaft, oem installed in my taylor made R500 serie, drove the ball 6 times and bang the head of the club went flying 100yrd away....worst is grafalloy did not want to give me an other shaft, they said its was the installer fault!

will never play a grafalloy/true temper.....reshaft with the aldila NV-65 or fugikura six, they're much better shafts and have similar caracteristic!

Last spring a buddy of mine got a Yonnex Cyberstar Powerbrid with a Fujikara 6 and the same thing happened to him. He re-shafted with the grafalloy blue and used it for the entire year. I wonder if the problem does lie with the installer.

man, these shaft guys are so stupid. I'm sure people hear these stories and say "i'll never buy a grafloy again" and then the people they are saying it to will never buy one again. How much is a shaft at cost anyway? They are soo stupid.

I was sticking up for grafalloy there: the great fujikara broke on its 1st range session, but the replacement grafalloy blue lasted him the entire year with improved distance.

Just bring it back in to the Golfworks.

Although I do not have a Grafaloy Blue in my driver I do have one of their shafts in there. Been playing it all season, 51 rounds so far and no problems with mine.
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I haven't heard of the Grafalloy Blue having a problem. I used it this year and had no problems. However if the hosel on your driver is not beveled there is a good chance of the shaft snapping. When re-shafting if may be necessary to use a coning bit to apply a beveled edge to the top of the hosel. This will decrease the chance for breakage (especially with composite shafts) by providing a smoother surface at the point where the shaft enters the hosel area.
Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

    Hey Guy's
The fact that you are hitting any graphite shaft from a mat would void most manufacturer's warranties. Just a thought when you are teeing it up on the mat [ not enough give].
    Have a good one
    Just my opinion.

Got a 100% refund from golfworks. Happy and satisfied with that but not the original recommendation on going with the Blue. Apparently harder hitters snap Blues like twigs because of the stiff tip. Needless to say they have seen alot of them returned recently...

Moved into a Fuji Speeder 757 that I will be trying tomorrow. Very excited.

    Grafalloy Prolite Max

Any experience with these newer shafts put out by Grafalloy (Prolite Max)?

The Grafalloy Blue does have a reputation for snapping on occassion. There has been a fair bit of discussion of the subject on the Golf Equipment Afficionados website.

Not to talk down your comment, that's not my intention, but this could be said for any shaft out there.

I'm a big hitter, play a Grafalloy Blue and love it. So, the fact that a couple out of the thousands and thousands out there have broken should raise red flags? I don't think so. The small percentages of breakage is minute in comparison to those that don't.

I think it's the same with anything. You can buy a lemon car, a dog with cancer or a bad shaft. It's all luck of the draw.

I bet if you reshafted that same club with a Blue you could use it for years and years.

    Just my two cents.

It's more than a couple. There are some clubmakers who won't touch the Blue shaft due to breakage issues. Grafalloy denies there is any problem.
I personally love the shaft, but I've broken one too.
I'm not trying to diss Grafalloy, as I am a big fan of their shafts. Just passing along the info in response to a question. The original poster asked if anyone had ever hear of breakage problems with the Blue, and I have.

Just replaced a snapped Grafalloy hyper ultra lite made for a name brand. Does not mean it is Grafalloy though as I have seen it happen in steel shafts as well.

I'm with rockford on this one...a lot of it has to do with the luck of the draw. I have a grafalloy blue x-stiff in my G2. If it snaps, I'll send it back to Ping and get another one...if it happens several times in a row...maybe then I will consider something else.

I just snapped an Accuflex Assasin V2 on the 4th drive after reshafting my SMT 455 with it. Lots of people use that shaft without much problem. Does that mean it's a bad shaft? Not necessarily. My clubmaker heard me growling when I came back though.

Anyone want a 9* SMT 455 head with only 70-80 hits?

How much for the head...LOL ?

But breaking one Accuflex is not a big deal. I know of many people who have broken Blue/Prolaunch Blue shafts. One friend broke three Blue before midway into the season last year. Has switched to a NVS and even has a driver with an Accuflex Evolution and not a single problem. With trying to make the shaft more compatible with big headed drivers I think they made the tip too stiff and anybody who can get the MPH up to around 100 or over have been snapping those shafts like twigs. From what I hear this year's models are not as prone to breakage, maybe they are fixing the problem.
