Thread: New Costco golf balll

I checked with staff at the Costco in Clearwater but nothing yet. Hoping to get some before heading back to Ottawa at end of month. On a side note was amazed at the number of Canadian cars in the parking lot at Valspar on Saturday. The tourney actually sold out. Fun following Hadwin.

Guess Costco made the Big Boys blink!
I hope Costco can keep manufacturing the same quality ball and keep it at a reasonable price.
Ball prices today are ridiculous.
Next, maybe they should look at Clubs!

Ironically I think Costco is the "Big Boy" here. Acushnet is a small company - don't think they can fight Costco on this unless they have substantial proof Costco infringed on their patents. Think this is why new KS balls haven't hit the Costco shelves and website yet (they prob want to obtain judgment against Acushnet first before putting them on sale again).

The markup by the store may be small but I'd be more interested in the cost of making that dozen balls.
Acushnet spits out Titliest and Pinnacle balls. $60/dozen and $20/dozen.
I find it hard to believe the manufacturing cost of a Pro V1 is three times the cost of making a entry level ball.
But maybe once you add in marketing, R&D, paying PGA players to endorse, etc... maybe these guys are just breaking even selling $60 golf balls.

I thought the same, Costco being the Big Boy here, until I read this on Golf Digest:

Acushnet has been aggressive protecting their patents and knocking out smaller competitors. But we're talking about a company w $6b in cash and short-term investments ($4.7b in cash) vs. another w just $63m cash (after removing $13m accounting from a JV). Costco could really take this far and severely wound Acushnet financially (no way Acushnet goes to market to tap new equity just to fight lawsuit) hence why Costco's lawsuit is so wide and encompassing (to really stretch Acushnet financially to defend lawsuit). Now of course, unless Acushnet is so confident Costco has definitely infringed on their patents. Def an interesting battle to watch...

Just ordered 2 dozen on Costco.com still $29.99 (US) for 2 dozen. Having them drop shipped to relatives in Arizona for my next golf trip.

Recent reviews say that the performance of the new batch is not the same as the original KSig.
Not as long, not the same feel, etc.

The link will take you to the product when they are back in stock - I was checking the link and when they were in stock it took me to the proper order page.

I have already found 3 of these in the woods.
Good ball but doesn't seem to help much for some people's game

New KSig Performance One Ball is not made by Nassau Golf...

did you even read the article?
"Frankly, I’m not sure why USGA allows this as it appears to be an effort to obfuscate the true source of the golf ball. SM Global isn’t a manufacturer; it’s packaging company located in southern California. They manufacture as many golf balls in their facility as I do in my basement. Zero."
"I’d wager that the balls were produced in the same Nassau plant using different cores."I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I hope performance isn't affected. The original is a genuinely good ball, regardless of price.

Yes, I saw his ad on Kijiji but figured it was not the original 4 piece, I bought a couple of dozen and still have 1 dozen 2016s left for anyone who is interested

Did you play the 2016 balls? What's your opinion of them?
-

I played one for several rounds but found other balls better (Wilson Duo, Srixon Soft Feel, Chrome Soft, Top Flite Gamer)
I'm not a 100 mph+ player so a two piece ball is better suited to my game.
I think the old 4 piece CB was better suited for faster swing speeds to compete with PRO V's but at a better price point.
Not sure how the new three piece CB performs...very little reviews so far.
