Eric Cook- Single length irons

Just found out that Eric Cook was the first one who came up with the single length irons design.

The concept of making each iron in a set the same length is not new. Eric Cook’s Iso-Vibe Golf Company in Canada began offering single length sets of irons to the North American golf market in 1986

Because it is so contrary to "conventional wisdom" it is understandable why a single length iron set failed to become more popular in the past. However, it is the "single axis" aspect of DeChambeau's technique, along with the SL irons, that is more intriguing. With his right forearm in line with the club shaft at address, it is not necessary for his upper body to have to lift up and back, coming into impact, that provides the greater consistency. In the conventional swing there is an obtuse angle at address between the right forearm and the shaft that changes to a straight (180*) angle at impact. To do this the upper body must move up and back making it harder to return the club head to a square position at impact.

In addition to Moe Norman's superior talent, it was the single axis technique that he used that made him one of the best ball strikers of all time.

I worked with Eric and Elva, learning the trade for seven years. There were no hybrids invented at the time. So for me, after the 6 Iron I always liked using fairway woods. So I made a 7 wood, 9 wood, 11 wood and 13 wood all the same length with true temper rocket shafts. The worked like a charm. They were very consistent with distances and accurate... I guess you could say that " it was my first try at the hybrid concept".

Eric Cook and Bud Malloy were way ahead of their time with frequency matching and moment of inertia.

They really left a legacy that added value to the game.
