UPS Class Action- Re; Brokerage Fees....
I know people talk about brokerage fees on OG...
On February 19, 2007, Siskinds filed a class proceeding against United Parcel Service Canada Ltd. (“UPS”) on behalf of Ontario residents with respect of the brokerage fee(s) charged on the shipment of goods from outside of Canada. The lawsuit further claims that UPS failed to obtain consumers’ consent to act as a customs broker; to disclose the existence and/or amount of the brokerage fee; and to provide consumers with the opportunity or disclose to them how to arrange for customs clearance by themselves.

Never buying anything from the 'States that isn't shipped USPS.
Just had to pay $30 to UPS for a $50 order that I received in November. They post-billed me and threatened collection. Purolator's no better.

At least the settlement is for only people in Ontario... so I should not hold out for a $72,000.00 check....LOL

I received the same letter. $6.8 Million settlement (less 25% TO council) divided by how many people?

The real purpose of class action lawsuits is to punish companies that abuse consumers (well OK, some lawyers make a pretty good living at it too). Typically these companies try to get away with it because the dollar amounts per person are not enough for anyone to take them to court over it.
So if it helps recoup some of the ridiculous fees you paid, then it is better than nothing. Hopefully this will act as a deterrent in the future.

All depends if they collected more money than $6.8 Million settlement....

Of course they collected more than $6.8 Mil, that's why they settled for something that is much less than what they collected from the consumers affected. But large enough for the lawyers to get rich(er).

I believe I got this letter recently but seem to have misplaced it (lost amongst the forest of golf clubs...). What would people suggest here - is this generic document posted online or is there a class action website out there? I am hoping that only a dozen people will come forward and I can retire early....lol

You're automatically included unless you go out of your way to exclude yourself. The Lawyers must have gotten UPS to release all clients and charges for the years in question, July 24, 2005 to August 27, 2011.
The lawyers will get 25% of the $6.8 Mil = $1.7 Mil"Only one man in a thousand is a leader of men...

Hi guys---yes you are automatically included in the suit. If this goes to court and the suit is LOST by the plaintiff--YOU. It is you that will be responsible for the lawyers bill !!!!! On the letter there should be an address that you have to write to in order opt out. This is much the same as the class action lawsuit against IKO shingles that is still going on. I opted out but went after IKO directly and won --TWICE. Mind you, this was for 9.000.00 and 8,000.00. If you are named in the lawsuit you MUST notify them in writing. It could take years to reach the court. The IKO thing is still going on--8 years later
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?
