    Snowboard Teacher

    I'm looking to give this a try and was wondering if anybody could help me out. We usually do night skiing and not too sure which hills offer lessons at that time.

    Thx

    Bring wrist guards if you have. Lots of falling at the beginning. I actually wore hockey pants for a month when I started to protect my Assssets.

    calabogie has a good rental package snow board, boots and a helmet, lift pass
    plus a lesson. pretty cheap.

    and after an hour when your beat down you can exchange the rental stuff for skiis .

    good luck... hope u don't bruise easily..... Just so u know.. I ski 5 days a week; fast ;
    and you'll never get me near a snowboard.. those things are terrifying !!!

    It's pretty easy to teach yourself how to board, especially since you've been skiing and are used to the feeling of sliding on snow. I picked it up in a day or so, and I am athletically challenged as you know.

    If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

    I found snowboarding harder than most sports at the beginning but the learning curve is really steep. As mentioned above, wrist guards are a great idea especially considering our number one hobby.

    Buy the best padded shorts you can find. I don't know where to get them here in Ottawa, but they are a MUST! When I first switched from skiing to snowboarding, I couldn't walk properly for three days after going. Lots of tail bone bruises as well. I was wakeboarding before, but it was definitely a weird feeling to go down the hill sideways, instead of two feet forward. Been at it though for over ten years now.

    Well...I could go with you if you want. I haven't had a lot of time in the evenings this Winter so far though. So it would have to be a weekend for sure. I'm sure we can figure something out.

    Have you been on a board at all?

    Not sure what a teacher will help you with. The best way to learn is to grab a board and go down a hill where you can't get into too much trouble. I teacher isn't going to stop you from falling on your butt anymore than doing it by yourself. Fortune has that small hill by the main chalet that is good for learning. Just remember the above about protecting your butt and wrist and even though you will want to, you actually never ride on the flat part of your board, always on edge. That's about the most you will get out of any lesson.

    Have fun, switched years ago and would never go back.

    Going this Saturday, although wife thinks I should ski because we are going with our new neighbours and doesn't think I should submit them to the disaster that will be my first time boarding.

    HAHA! You're most likely going to be spending a lot of time on your own? Unless of course your neighbours enjoy watching you roll down the Bunny Hill the entire day....

    Pfft, if I'm rolling down a hill it won't be the bunny hill. Trial by fire, I always say!!!
