USB/Firewire cameras for V1 Home swing analysis
Looking for ideas on a USB/Firewire highspeed camera for V1 Home to run along side my simulator. I already have an HD camcorder but it'll only do 30fps.
Thanks

Zmax.
I am waiting on swingprofile software as there is no pressing any buttons or cutting etc.
It only records when you swing. Pinpoints swing points.
Have emailed them and requested they support 2 ps eye cams at 120fps- front and rear view on same swing.
Will post if it ever happens.
Can the ps eye work with v1?

I don't have a PS3eye camera to test. I'll try to find one. Although, the PS3eye camera is only 340X240, which might still be ok for golf swings.
I tried a USB Firefly MV on the V1 last night but could not get it to record. The video shows up fine in live mode but it would not record. I sent support an email.
Does Swingprofile allow you to draw lines?

I wonder why it didn't record with the Firefly. Z have you tried the Firefly with Kinovea http://www.kinovea.org/en/ ?

Do you still have a PS3eye camera? You can download the basic V1 Home version to try. It's free.

Thing with high speed cameras is in order to have nice high fps footage, you need to have a lot of light. Best outdoors.
Simulators like protee of course use spot lights and everything else is dark, so I'd think you'd need a floor spot on you to have enough light to record at a nice resolution/speed. That's what i know from my basic filming understanding.

Got V1 to work with my USB Firefly machine vision camera. I had to disable the other two(LA, H-cam) cameras. V1 was confused I guess. It's the basic version. I'll buy the full version that allows multiple cameras to see what happens.

It "captures the key moments" and draws the lines for you.

I couldn't get Swingprofile to work with the Firefly but didn't play with it too much.
V1 works great so I will buying the full version. The Firefly MV looks pretty good at a little bit less than 640X480 @ 80fps. It's only black and white but good enough to capture the movements of the golfer. 80 fps is not fast enough to capture the shaft or the hand at impact.
Going to grab a PS3eye on Ebay to try. Not sure how 320X240@120fps will look. If somebody knows of a faster camera, please let me know.

People on GOLFWRX.com say Casio FH-20 is one of the best high speed cameras for its price. Should be sub $175 by now.

Yes it has a usb/Av port described as
High-speed usb- can't see if it is 2.0 or 3.0
Computer allegedly sees camera as mass storage and if conected to tv via av can play.
It may be trial and error if can capture simple screen display.

Check this out for some ideas:

Looks like he has 2 JVC security cams at 60 fps or so, they have the ability to run live feed on a monitor he can see.

CPA, any chance you can download the free V1 basic just to see if live stream and record will work via USB on that camera?
Goat, I can do that with the camera I have. Would like to do it at 200fps though.

Zmax
Will put v1 on the new lenovo laptop tomorrow. Pretty sure I have premium but don't use it on the pc. Use Android premium.
Keep fingers crossed.
If it works any cheap Casio cam with usb/Av port may be OK

At $700, you might as well just buy a personal teaching pro to come to your house and film your swing and teach you.

Thanks CPA. It would be cool if it works.
$700 is too much for me. The original Grasshopper will do 640X480 at 200fps but that's probably at least $1000.

I have the Casio Ex FS10. It does a very good job at high speed video. Very good price as well. It has a usb port but I thought it was just to transfer files and pictures not do live feed. You can record on the camera and then import the videos onto the V1 or whatever program to vies and analyse. I take it you are looking for a camera with live feed and being able to record from the V1 program Z?

Yes bubba my fear is the usb will not do live feed.
From memory I think I read the hdmi port does live feed and hoping the usb/vga port does as well.
Would intergrate well with a sound trigger in V1 so no fiddling around.

Do let us know CPA. Your cam is a good one. I am pretty sure mine doesn't do live feed. Will keep playing with it later tonight when kiddies are asleep.

That's correct bubba22. Live feed recording is what I'm looking for. The Firefly MV works fine for the body but I would like something faster so I can see the shaft and hands at impact.

I got the EX-FH20 and it will not stream over the usb port. The only Casio that I know of that will do that is the EX-FH1 and that is a whole lot more money

I thought so ZMax. As well syhlif32, I think you are exactly right!
