Ottawa Golf East vs West Ryder Cup
I know ideas had been thrown around post-Belleville. But would anyone be interested in such an event. Get a Ryder cup formatted event for Ottawa Golf. We could split the town in 2, the canal being the line and then have a 1 or 2 day event?
I would be interested in helping out with the organization for sure... would anyone else be in???
Let's start throwing some idea's in the pot!

think you better use Bank St. The canal isn't that long.....
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

lol, being a boater, I always consider the canal being the rideau river... I figure this body of water splits the city pretty well!

Sounds like a good idea. I would be in.
If its a 2 day event instead of the same course for both days, maybe play an east course day 1 then a west course day 2 to somewhat make it fair.Proud member of the 2012 OG vs TGN Ryder Cup winning team

Yeah for sure... that would be the plan! I think the first one is the hardest to plan. After that, the captain from the winning team is tasked with planning the one for the next year!

Yeah, I'm just pulling Jeff's chain a little. He lives about a minute from my front door...
I grew up in Orleans, lived in Greenboro for a while and ended up settling in Findlay Creek - which is technically "west of Bank Street". There is absolutely no way I would consider myself living in "West Ottawa".
If Jeff wants to play for "West Ottawa", then I would gladly volunteer to play for "East Ottawa" and take him down even thought my actual home coordinates are farther west than his. OTOH he is a decent golfer and a good guy, so if he sees the light and agrees to join the "East Ottawa" team then he would be welcomed with open arms. We all have lapses in judgement from time to time...
I'm sure Wilster and Ron Flanagan are also waiting to see where the battle lines are drawn...

I think the line should be the Rideau River/Canal. If our friends from the Quebec side want to join, then they have the Gatineau River to separate them from east to west! I am not sure where Wilster would stand, but if he is East, then I would vote him in as captain! ***Please tell me Xtour is east end!!!!

I'm in !
I've been having a think about his for a few weeks , and i think the 2 day event at 2 courses could be a great format.
We would obviously have to agree on courses and days , but i think if we set it for a friday afternoon , we may get alot of people interested , and may get the courses also, i think it would be harder to get weekend tee times ?
With it being east vs west , we should probably keep the course choices to central Ottawa , maybe Stonebridge , Manderley , Meadows , Emerald links etc .
Comments / suggestions ?At the end of the day ... It gets dark

I agree with the Friday Afternoon for sure. Central courses would be a good idea. But I am not against playing one extreme east course and then one extreme west course. This would force me to go out of my comfort zone and a play a course I never played before in the west end!

I'm in. I would assist in orgainization if needed. I agree with a two day event or even a 1day 36 hole. I'm a fan of modified alt shot. I suggest based on interest limiting the player field and taking deposits of $20. Too many events have people bailing and leaving the organizers to scramble. If two days are too much, play it like the slammer tour does. One course, 6 holes BB, 6 holes scramble and the remaining singles. However once one team wins the format before the six hole max...you continue with the next format therefore allowing more holes for the singles matches. In the singles matches you are playing both of your competitors.

I agree with you Xtour for Capping the participants and asking for a deposit! I like the idea with the 18 hole format but I would push for 2 rounds... Maybe one on Friday afternoon, then Saturday morning and then we can have a nice lunch at the golf course! I am sure some guys would go out on the friday night after the round as well... I would aim for either 8 or 12 guys per side...

I'd be interested subject to my usual conditions, i.e. travel for work.
I'd also suggest NOT scheduling it for a weekday as too many people probably wouldn't be able to commit to the day/afternoon off.
Oh yeah one more thing, Bank St splits Ottawa between East and West. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

J,I agree that maybe it could be hard to have people for a friday afternoon, I am sure we could go 36 in one day, this way we only have to use brownie points for one day and then tell the wives we will spend time with them on sunday.... yark!
As for the boundary, I am more inclined to use water as a bounday, ie canal and rideau river.. just seems like more of a natural border, plus it sorta goes into quebec if players from Gatineau want to join!

I also think we should set the max handicap at 15?? This does not mean that players with more than a 15 cap can't play, but the maximum strokes they will receive will be based on a 15 cap? Any thoughts on this??

I am in as long as I dont have to work on the weekend you guys are planning...and would help if need be...I dont care if we played slammer style and just went straight up with no strokes and then the captains would then try to see who they like in which spots to beat other players of equal or better caliber...There could be some upsets or just flat out dustings...
It would force me to play more aggressive especially against the longer hitters...
If I am complicating it just let me know...LOL...
