    No-Backswing Swing

I have back problems, and I have always had trouble making a good backswing.

So this season, I am going to eliminate the backswing altogether!

Wouldn't that be even harder on your back? Having to stop at the top is putting more strain on the back muscles than just swinging easy.

Leadbetter had something very similar a few years ago, but his was a start from waist high with the wrists already set, so basically a 1/3 backswing. Great for practice, not so sure about when you're playing though.

The thing that Suttie fails to mention is that even though a batter starts from a hands-high position, there is still a "loading" that occurs. It's not static. The batter will time the pitch by loading on to his back foot as the pitcher is preparing to release the ball. This move is the same as the backswing coil in golf, just shorter. I also don't know of any baseball player who starts from a position where the front arm is straight and locked at the elbow.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

    Bad idea bites the dust

Went to the driving range this morning, can not hit the ball at all this way!

Ah well...back to the drawing board.

The preset establishes a flat lead wrist before the swing begins. The back swing is completed by a mere turn of the torso. Leadbetter used the preset as a drill when he transformed the games of Price and Faldo from mediocrity to near best in the world, in the mid 1980's.

I have been using this preset start, as shown in the pic, for roughly a dozen years.
