I can only imagine how embarrassed and ** off the Leafs players must be when the hometown fans start chanting 'let's go Blue Jay's'. But not to win at home in 7+ weeks some might say they deserve the public humiliation , watching them play it is obvious that they have given up.

I agree it appears as if they've given up but I don't understand how players can really 'give up'. They're paid for 82 games. Don't they realize their jobs next year are at stake? Even the Islanders, Blue Jackets, Wild who have been eliminated for a long time keep winning games. Should the Leafs be investigated for giving up?

"There's alway's Next year."
According to ESPN The Magazine; published its Ultimate Standings, ranking every professional sports team in the NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL from 1st to 122nd.
For the first time a hockey team is 122nd.

By what 'scientific' criteria did ESPN arrived at this conclusion? Let's see whether that 'correlate' with the 36 posts here in this thread.
Let's list them;
1. Bang For The Buck (BNG): Wins during the past three years (regular season plus postseason) per revenues directly from fans, adjusted for league schedules. : Checked
2. Fan Relations (FRL): Openness and consideration toward fans by players, coaches and management. : Checked
3. Ownership (OWN): Honesty and loyalty to core players and local community. : Checked
4. Affordability (AFF): Price of tickets, parking and concessions. : Checked
5. Stadium Experience (STX): Quality of arena and game-day promotions as well as friendliness of environment. Checked
6. Players (PLA): Effort on the field and likability off it. : Checked
7. Coaching (CCH): Strength of on-field leadership. : Checked
8. Title Track (TTR): Championships already won or expected in the lifetime of current fans: Checked.

Is anyone else shocked and proud that the Maple Leafs made it into the 'pro sports' team category?

The only team to not make the top 100 in any category.
The team motto should be "Who needs to win? They still buy tickets 50 years later!"
=========================
Last year's rank: 120
Title track: 121
Ownership: 120
Coaching: 112
Players: 121
Fan relations: 119
Affordability: 122
Stadium experience: 104
Bang for the buck: 122
Is it possible to be No. 122 with a bullet? After finishing 120th or 121st in the standings every year from 2008 to 2011, Toronto hiked prices 7.2 percent, cratered to 13th place in the NHL's Eastern Conference (GM Brian Burke said last season was "akin to an 18-wheeler going right off a cliff") and finally bottomed out in our rankings. The Leafs are like the Yankees -- an internationally famous franchise with a glorious history, devoted followers and staggeringly high prices -- except they play like the Royals. Even worse, they regularly blow off fans: In our surveys, the Leafs finished dead last among all teams in the categories of player accessibility, staging promotions and giveaways, and engaging fans through social media -- a hideous trifecta. And even though the team apologized for its performance in full-page newspaper ads in April, and Bell Canada and Rogers Communications, two of Canada's biggest media companies, just closed a deal to buy the club, there's little reason to expect change. The Leafs are by far the most valuable franchise in hockey and last year generated an enormous $81.8 million in profits. Now that's Loonie.

Embarrassment is an emotional state of intense discomfort with oneself, experienced upon having a socially unacceptable act or condition witnessed by or revealed to others. Usually some amount of loss of honour or dignity is involved, but how much and the type depends on the embarrassing situation. It is similar to shame, except that shame may be experienced for an act known only to oneself. Also, embarrassment usually carries the connotation of being caused by an act that is merely socially unacceptable, rather than morally wrong.
