I completely hear you Kilroy. The problem is that even within a certain thread someone will invariably ask a question that is somewhat related but leads to a different discussion. The question that is asked has certainly been discussed somewhere in this forum. They just need to do a search.

Great set up, how deep is your cage? Is it sturdy just standing or do you need to secure it to the floor? I noticed on golf channels Golf Academy they have a net in front of the screen I think. Is your screen strong enough for real golf balls and do the balls drop or bounce back?
thanks

The cage is 3 feet on the bottom and 2 on top. I planned on going 5 feet on the bottom but after putting the cage together I realized I was one pole short so I had to cut them shorter then planned.
The cage is very sturdy but I do plan on putting weight on the front of the bottom poles just incase. I've only been hitting iron shots with real balls only because I'm scared of the girlfriends wrath if a drive gets away from me and I put a hole in the brand new wall. I also have netting behind the screen so the ball hits and rolls off. I used bungy cords on three sides of the screen so that may help with the impact as well.
I purchased the HQ raw material from Cory and think it's great. I highly recommend giving him a call.
Hope this answers your questions.

I do agree that Cory's HQ screen material is very good.

Just purchased the MiniBay Indoor Golf Hitting Enclosure Akyyyyy mentioned in post #75 of this thread from Allsportsystems.com, setup pics here: http://www.allsportsystems.com/golf-...tor-setup.html
I spoke with Dave Hill, Allsportsystems sales specialist over the past week and he confirmed the following for me Via email;
"We only market the Minibay enclosure with the netting that fits enclosures up to 10x10x10 (you can make yours smaller... but not larger than this)."
I plan on setting mine up to the aprox dimensions of 10' wide x 10' tall x 6' deep when I move to my new place this week. Pics to follow...

jrdann11, I'm interested in this setup as well. Did you order the large screen from them as well?

Setup
I ordered the screen from custom design golf that is 9.5 feet wide, arrives tomorrow. I have a pic of my setup so far I'll post when I get the Internet connected next week, only have my cell for now. I had to purchase quite a few bungie cords and used about 50? Zip ties. It looks pretty nice and hitting a few 4 irons off the carpet with just the baffle stops a ball no problem.

Fourth pic shows the projector mounted to the ceiling. What a pain in the * that was to put 4 tapcon screws into concrete ceilings...Well worth it though
extremely happy with the setup so far, now just need to get my mat finished and I'm gtg.

Nice job, Jarrad. I would suggest putting a little black material around the screen to improve the total effect.

Looks good Jarrad. Can I ask how tall the screen is and how far your mat and projector are from the screen?

Sorry for the delay, The screen is 9.5 x 9.5 feet ordered from custom design golf. The cage dimensions are 10x10x5 feet. Unsure about the projector distance, if I had to guess I'd say about 20 feet? This website can help you calculate based on what projector you have http://www.projectorcentral.com/proj...calculator.cfm
I don't have a mat, working out options trying to build one vs breaking down and spending the 500+ for a nice one...

any suggestion for a material? I was thinking about putting a strip of something around the sides and top. Perhaps attach a 30x5 foot strip of black material to the outside of the cage. Should help with visual appeal and light reduction. I did zip tie the baffle netting to the outside net along the baffle edges. This helped out to distinguish the edges of the screen a bit.
Side note, hooked up my xbox 360 and playing video games is amazing on this thing. Good thing I have a gf or I would never leave this place

jrdann11, how far back are you from the cage when you swing, and have you ever missed the cage with a shank or anything like that?

I wish I could load a video I have on my iphone for you. I don't have a mat setup yet so I haven't determined my actual distance from the screen to position it yet. I have exposed ceilings that are 12 feet tall with ductwork that I need to be cognizant of for righty golfers. As for your question with shanks, The depth of the cage is 5 feet and the screen is about 20 inches in front of that leaving me about 3 feet or so on each side. Truthfully I'm not worried about myself at all missing or shanking a shot, just friends. I suppose it's possible but you would have to really try as if you position the mat correctly you could literally swing inside of the cage. I can take and load more pics of different angles or anything you are interested in?
Side note: I ran into a bit of a problem with my surround sound center channel. I can't put it behind the cage as I don't have enough room and want to mount it on the ceiling. The speaker is about 8 inches tall and I have about 14 inches to play with. I'm thinking I could use some pipe and connectors to make two u shaped mounts that are slightly wider than the speaker is deep. Then mount these to the ceiling unless someone has another suggestion?

Alright we are finally done and here it is. Took about a month to do. We converted an upstairs loft that we stopped using normally. The room is about 15 by 10wide. The ceiling are 9ft. We can swing are drivers. The projector is mounted 13ft back from screen. (epson 705hd).The hitting screen is 8x7wide from netting masters. Very nice screen good contrast and it seems pretty bulletproof. There is still too much risk with real balls so we are sticking to foam for now. I also ended up mounting a 100inch motorized projector screen for movies and games (150 from ebay). It comes down in front of the hitting screen when needed. i built the hitting mat from ply and purchased a 5x4 dura mat from dw quail on Ebay. I mounted a hinged 5ft putting strip and attached castors to roll out of the way when more floor space is needed. Of course I had to buy a new onkyo surround system. There are also tons of little extras like folding shelves for drinks or holding keyboards. My wife sewed the curtains for the border around the screen, also bought some decent club chairs from Costco. Looks and sound amazing. We think this is a pretty classy setup. Prob spent too much time and money ($2500ish for everything) but we have no regrets. Also helps when your wife is more of a golf nut than you
Hopefully this link will work for the pics. Was unable to post pic normally hopefully this link will work. http://gallery.me.com/tahosrfr#100060

Okay getting close on my setup, still need screen and an adapter for my projector to go from DVI to HDMI. Built the cage to collapse against the wall just in case I need it out of the way. Built it in my detached garage.100_9946.jpg100_9950.jpg100_9941.jpg100_9949.jpg100_9951.jpg

Bought it off of ebay from a seller named coach bruce. They are 4 x 5 mats that are almost the exact thickness of the dd. He was closing them out at $120 buy it now but I bid and got one for $79 and one for $91. Looks like he just has two cheap quality ones left. I would just keep looking on ebay for a good buy, good luck.

Some pics of my garage setup. Low cost, and not pretty to look at, but very functional.
Pics are: 1. Rubber roofing impact screen 8'-6" high by 9'x6" wide
2. Home made mat made from styrofoam insulation wrapped in 1'4" plywood with infrared heater hanging from ceiling to keep me warm in the winter, and projector on small stool next to refrigerator.
NP905 Projector on little stool (next to refrigerator)
3. Projected image. This is at night with no lights on. The light from the projector easily illuminates the ball so I don't need any lighting at all.simulator 013.jpgsimulator 015.jpgsimulator 012.jpg

Daddyfats, how big of a piece does the roofing come in, can you hit real balls and what is the cost? Looks great.

I think it comes 10' wide and I don't know the cost because I got it as a leftover for free. If it came in 12' widths, that would be great. I run out of screen width and still have a foot of height. Sometimes, I don't use the swing analysis and blow it up to full heigth and it's pretty cool. Biggest image I've seen in a home setting sim. It's the main reason I didn't get a 1080 projector, because I wanted the tallest image I could get. So far, I haven't seen a 1080 image that is so much better that I would want to give up the full height.
One thing is the balls bounce back off of it a bit, but they just roll back. Once in a while a ball will come back toward me when I use a lofted club, as if somebody tossed it to me from 8' away. I don't use real balls (except for chipping and putting)so it doesn't bother me. Most of the time the ball just rolls past me.

Daddyfats.
Try to see the HD projector tread!
If I understand it right they use the 1080 projector in 1440 X 1050 for a 4:3 image.
That is close to 2 times the pixels so should produce a better picture.
I changed out my screen from a painters drop cloth to a white blackout curtain. Amassing how much the picture quality improved.
But it will not last, it is getting marked by the dirt on the foam balls.

Sweet setup dvshx. Was curious about Net Return. How do you like it? Do you have any issues with hitting low wedges? Are the side nets worth it?

I've noticed that there are a few of us in this forum that live in cold weather cities and have garage setups. Do you guys leave everything set up during the winter? Is there any concern about leaving the electronics (sensor mat, computer, projector, cameras...etc.) out in sub freezing temperatures? I've been working on setting something up in our garage and have been operating under the assumption that it was going to need to be torn down (at least the electriconis taken inside) after every use.
I'd also be interested in feedback from anyone who has a camera set up (PX5, ProTee...etc.) on if taking it down after every use and setting it back up is feasible or is it too combersum? Thanks!
