After months of speculation it's finally happened. Puma has bought the Cobra Golf Brand from Acushnet. Good score for Puma.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the likes of Villegas and Poulter who play Cobra gear and Rickie Fowler who plays Titleist and wears Puma.

Fowler has already tweeted that he is "a Titleist guy." Poulter is interesting because he has his own clothing line which, however small, must compete with Puma a little.

Be interesting to see how their equipment line goes in the future considering Puma isn't in the club business and Cobra won't have Titleist's R&D.

I can't see Puma jumping into this without some sort of reputable club builder/designer already in place. Or at least somebody who worked under a reputable designer.

It would definitely be a shame if Cobra regresses...IMO they have finally found a niche with their irons and drivers. I never really saw them as a "players" clubs until the last few years. They have put out some really nice equipment lately.

Too bad for Fowler...he looked good in Puma clothing(except for his big hat). Maybe this will force Titleist to come out with a younger clothing line. Geoff Ogilvy used to look sharp in his Puma clothing...this year wearing Titleist duds...he looks so boring

He's not wearing Titleist duds, as Titleist isn't in the apparel game - and Footjoy is only in the glove, shoe and outerwear arenas.

Ogilvy wears Travis Mathew, and a great line from Southern California - perhaps understated, but great cuts and very high quality stuff. Perhaps it looks boring on television, but at least he doesn't look like a traffic pylon or a smurf like Fowler.

Details on Travis Mathew can be found here:

I never heard of Travis Mathew...thanks for the info. I'm sure its top quality clothing but I do find it a bit boring on TV. I used to be able to identify Geoff Ogilvy from his Puma clothing but now i find it hard to pick him out. Same with Charles Howell...who is his clothing brand now?
This may be a good opportunity for Titleist to get into the apparel game.
