Any body know if you can buy grip tape at Golftown? If so how big are the rolls(just looking to do 8 grips). Thanks

Tape from Golfworks is cheap and well worth it. I'm sure any grip tape GT sells you would be from Golfworks anyway. You can also try Golfsmith Canada and ebay.

Golftown does NOT sell grip tape. I asked when I bought my grips there. Then proceeded to Golfworks, if I am not mistaken they will sell you pre-cut strips as many as you need.(I ended up buying a roll for the above mentioned future projects)

I'm sure they sell strips at GW. You don't need to buy a roll.

More or less.
In a pinch I have used non-grip tape double sided tape and the adhesive is different and resulted in a very gooey mess. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

At one point GW a couple years back GW ran out of regular grip tape. They substituted with carpet tape(with the brown backing)available from Cantech in Montréal: http://www.cttgroup.com/cantech/cm1.asp?SMID=7
It gets the job done but like you said very gooey.Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

very gooey while installing or after when you play? If I don't mind the mess can I use carpet tape and just clean up after?

I had one bad experience installing them when I first started using a compressor. They were blown off(with solvent and air) and reapplied with a compressor. I guess they stretched. No f and good. Brand new ones that have not been stretched will not twist. To be on the safe side I use .580 grips. Now whenever I use a compressor I try my darnest to twist them off. If they don't budge they stay. If they do budge grip tape goes on. You learn from your mistakes.

Yup, I haven't run into a problem. I always remove the old grip and the old tape, apply one layer of masking tape and on she goes. Works like a charm and you can save old grips and try different ones quite easily.

I'm sure both you guys both do a terrific job with the compressors. For anyone who installs a lot of grips it is certainly a worthwhile purchase.
For someone just doing their own grips however, I think it is worth it to start off and learn to do it nice and carefully with grip tape and solvent. The extra time is takes is not that big a deal when you're only doing one or two sets. The opinions expressed in this post are mine and may not necessarily reflect the opinions of others on OG.

I agree with Reid that you should get a feel for it with the grip tape and solvent. My father in law and I share the compressor and we only do it once a year but we like to play with different grips and save the old ones. Not really worth the investment if you are going to them once a year and not save any grips.
