    Is a chipper a legal club?

    Hi. Just wondering if a chipper is a legal club....(the club that looks like a putter but has an offset face)

    Chipper is legal

    I have had an opinion from the rules committee at the club on the subject. It is not the chipper that is illegal but the fact that some chippers have two faces. It is the second face that makes it illegal.

    Clubs other than putters may have only one striking face.

    Putter grips may not be used on clubs with a loft exceeding 10 degrees.

    Also, there are some other technical issues. (face density, offset distances, runners on the sole, etc.)

    Some chippers conform; some do not.

    You would probably be safe with a name brand chipper that has one face and a single round grip.
