OG vs TGN/TGI Version'08!
So I have put the date tentatively at May 24 & 25. It is the weekend after the holiday weekend. So hopefully this won't conflict with anyone's vacation plans. The venue will once again be Trillium Wood, seeing as how it is a great course and nicely situated between OTT and TO.
Now most of you are probably wondering what TGI stands for in the title. For those that aren't aware, TGI (Toronto Golf Insider) is a Toronto based golf site started up by some former (and current) members of TGN that didn't like the way the site was progressing. I won't rehash any of that here (and please don't ask), but for those that would visit TGN you know what I'm talking about. So on that note, the TO team may be made up of members from both sites.
Now on to the matter at hand. How to determine members of the OG team. Do we stick with the guys that brought home the hardware last year? Do we have a qualifier? I'm of the mindset you go with what worked. Until we are defeated I say the same team goes to defend the title. If/when we are defeated we could then start holding qualifiers each season. But if it ain't broke, why fix it, right?
Thoughts?
And please keep any questions/comments/concerns regarding this event to this thread. We don't need 5 or 6 threads basically about the same thing."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

I'd say go with last year's team as a starting point.
Schedules being what they are, it's likely that somebody won't be able to make it that weekend, in which case you can fill in from other interested parties. You can either use the money list/world cup rankings/captain's pick formula.
Assuming my schedule permits, I am in.

Unless my schedule changes, which I hope will not happen, I'm in. I'd go with the existing team. However, if you decide to hold a qualifier, I wouldn't be opposed to that either. If Lance and I are teamed again this year, just remind him to kick me early. I play better when I'm miffed. By the way, so does he.

If it weren't for the fact that I like warm showers and comfy beds, I'd suggest booking a campsite so that we can deep fry a turkey (or two) for dinner after day one.
Imagine the hilarity that would come from mixing golfers, beer, other random liquor, and boiling hot oil!Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I'm in too, if the weekend can be changed to the first weekend of June! lol.
I'm going on a "golf vacation" to Virginia from May 19-25 with friends, so I should be at the top of my game the weekend after that! I know those plans are not flexible for Virginia as far as dates right now, and you did mention that the Ryder Cup was "tentatively" set to the 24/25.
I would also say go with last year's squad. However, you should see what TGN/TGI is doing as well. If they are holding qualifiers, maybe we should too. Granted they held qualifiers last year and Bob and I still had to give them 8 shots each day! lol

I'd like to see an NCGT/OG match play event...

As for pushing it June, don't think that will happen. That is when there is alot of OVGA events (Intersectional qualifying for many) and I'd rather go up against one NCGT event than try to make something work against possibly 5 or 6 guys Intersectional qualifying. Sorry buddy, these are the dates for now unless most players can't make it."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

And just an fyi, for those that weren't on the team last year and would like to be a part of this, please PM me (don't post in this thread because I will lose track of who replied). As I will be starting a list of "interested" parties to determine whether I just choose who fills the vacant spots, or perhaps we have a qualifier. If the list is short, I will just choose replacements based on order they replied to me (I already have one on my list ).

A qualifier may be a fairer way to decide the spots , however the guys who went last year should have first bite of the cherry , and maybe the spots left open by those who can't make it this year should have a qualifier.

I was thinking of making a few changes to the format.
Seeing as how last year the same teams played each other both days, what if we were to offer 4 different formats for each nine hole segment?
First nine holes perhaps a scramble, just to get everyone warmed up.
Second nine holes could be alternate shot.
Third nine holes could be best ball, and the last nine holes could be singles play.
Thoughts on this format? We could still apply the handicap rules we used for the event last year, just maybe the first nine holes will be played straight up.

I like the sound of things with the tweaked format. Wouldn't straight up scramble be hard to do though? You're still playing with your ability whatever the handicaps may be. For example, if TGN brings 16-20+ handicappers again, isn't it reasonable to think if they go up against an OG team of 8-10 cappers that they would still be at a disadvantage?

I agree that it all depends on the handicaps. Ideally it would be great if we could play everything straight up but this doesn't seem likely.
I like the idea of using all the different types of format. I think that the higher handicap teams have an advantage at the best ball format while the lower handicap teams have an advantage in the alternate shot format.
What did we do last year? 1st round best ball, 2nd round alternate shot?PROUD MEMBER OF THE 2007 & 2009 OTTAWA GOLF RYDER CUP CHAMPIONS!!!
