Square Drivers
After returning from the PGA show in January I made a statement that the square drivers were not as long as a "regular" Driver.
I have to say I was Wrong.
I had a 10* Raven Squared come in this week . I built it as a demo using a Excelsior Black Diamond shaft and went to Tees Indoor Golf to test the club.
First 2 or 3 I had to make a few adjustments but once I got it down....250 down the middle.
This is the same as I was finding with my other drivers, on this same equipment maybe a few yards longer.

Just by looking at your signature, it looks like a biased opinion.

I don't think its a biased opinion. He's just reporting back that the square driver that one of his manufacturers he deals with is just as long as his other drivers. And if you look at his WITB icon, he does play a SMT (yes another brand he carries) but that's says alot about the Raven driver. SMTs are long sticks.
If it matters, I tried a Cally Ft-i at GT and I was hitting just as far as other drivers I've hit in the sims at GT. And I don't sell Cally gear. But you never know, there might a Bridgestone sale in a few months."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

No he is not. Of course he is going to try a Raven. He sells them. But actually that was his statement and he actually isjust saying that they are just as long as regular drivers:. The following was his original statement:
[QUOTE] This along with all of the square drivers are different looking. I think you could get use to it, but I really believe there is some value to the design as far as control is concerned, I believe distance suffers. They will fix that I am sure and again just my opinion!
I was at the PGA demo day and most manufacturers had a version on the square driver including Raven, (which I thought looked pretty good). All of the shots that I seen were straight, slight fade, slight draw, even my shots!
There is another twist that all are not aware of yet. Callaway has claimed they have a patent on Square Drivers above a certain MOI! This will get interesting!
BTW One firm also had a square 7 wood on display!
I think you will see alot of them in play this season. I believe that it is another marketing angle. They can't make them bigger....can only put in so many weights...can only have .830 core so they have to play with appearance.
This was my first trip to the show, but I must say I was disappointed. It served my purposes, and I did see some neat things but all in all not what I was expecting.
Very few component companies, lots of clothing and lots of training aids. From a business standpoint I would rate it fair.
From an enthusiast's standpoint, it would be very exciting! Lots of give aways, lots of different versions of the same thing. Some very nice putters, and you can actually touch and feel some high end Japanese forgings! Plus you can go and swing a club all day long!

I for one do not have a problem with his report. All it states is the facts he came up with in his test. I hardly think he is being biased.
He is not telling you to go buy one of the products he sells.
Thanks for the report Jim.My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Aloha all,
My buddy brought the raven squared with him on holidays. His Bannas are now power fades. He hits the Raven Squared as long or longer than his previous driver, which I also built. This one is a 10* and he should be in the 12*. They are not for everyone but they do have a place.
Thanks for the kind words guys, just the facts as I see them.
Chris, did you get that cover ok?

What tip size do they use? As I have a graman shaft that would fit well with it but the tip is .335.
Thanks
Claude
