Paterson Group courses - maintenance of tee boxes @ Emerald and Anderson Links
I want to complain about the condition of the tee boxes at Emerald Links, notoriously bad for many years but now with extra long grass as they were Saturday August 3, even worse than the weekend before when we (class A players) played this course. The grass was 3” long or longer on every tee box, which makes them much worse than the most mediocre courses in the region like Chateau Cartier and Irish Hills. The boxes themselves have not been properly maintained for a long time, leveled and rolled, etc. It’s really disappointing because they have other advantages there but this very important feature affects all golfers and impacts our decision to return to play there and recommend the course in the future.
I cannot be the only golfer complaining about this. And the same goes for the group's Anderson Links course where there is also a disregard for up-keeping the tee boxes properly.

I'm guessing this was a tee box for a par-3. At least the grass isn't 3" long.
At many courses the tee boxes on par-3s are not big enough for the tee choices they contain. It takes time (and effort) for these divots to be filled in and the new grass to take hold. During this time you need to have room on the tee box to put the tees in several different places over several weeks. Some tee boxes are not big enough for that, and golfers end up paying the price.

Demand for golf is thankfully dropping. However, for course owners, revenue is also dropping. Expenses need to drop accordingly for the owners or they will start losing money (relatively speaking). Combine the increased cost for fertilizer/maintenance supplies, employee wages, and a lack of manpower with many kids heading back to school, and you have the perfect recipe for poor/worsening course conditions.
