I have a couple wedges that have the black finish on them, and i have been trying to get the finish off so it can rust. Anybody have any good ideas to get the finish off? thanks for any input

I would try sanding them off.
Coke?
Have not tried the Coke method but imho Coke will clean but not remove any finish. Sanding will remove the finish.Quote:

I have played golf for many years and I still do not understand the fascination some guys have with rusty wedges.
You really do not get much more spin because of the rust. Think about it, how can rust actually cause a ball to spin?
If the OEM wanted those wedges to rust they would have left the finish raw which would allow it to rust.
If you want more spin buy some Srixon wedges like I own.Those wedges will spin just about any golf ball.:)
well it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure this one out
ever hear of the spin doctor wedges (old ones)? or the ripstick wedges? purespin wedges?
iv used them all are theyre no doubt in my mind that having that rough edge on the face increase spin rates like you wouldnt believe
spin doctors grooves were outwards instead of the grooves we have in golf clubs now
the rip stick has little nipples all over the face
both of these are illegal because they produce ridiculous amounts of spin, by that i mean 40 feet

now RUST is the only legal way you can create some form of an outward groove on the face, much like the milling of faces
this rusts acts much like the milling of faces and creates more spin on the ball
as for why dont OEM leave wedges raw?
they do, take a look at the RTG clevelands (RAW tour grind), the oilcan and raw finished vokeys, the raw taylor mades, etc
wedges are a personal thing, some people prefer chrome and let the ball run to the hole, other like raw and aim and the stick and let it sit
just look at the WITB on the golf channel and youll see what wedges suck back the ball and what wedges just plain suck
