Batting From The Other Side
I made the mistake of listening to the local radio "golf" show Saturday morning and after listening to the hosts drivel, or was it drool, for 45 minutes, I changed stations, thinking, "How can he get away with that?"
Instead of discussions about golf topics, which is what "Tee It Up" presumably stands for, the show was a springboard to talk about his yougster's winning hockey team and subsequent trip to Pizza Hut, about the various hockey and provincial flags that were being hung up or taken down, at a couple of locations in Ottawa, and about lesbians on the LPGA Tour.
About the latter he ridiculed Rosie Jones for coming out saying, "I'm gay. Let's go play golf," and them further ridiculed other ladies for "batting from the other side," a phrase he repeated several times. He stated that 50% of the LPGA members "bat from the other side," and made reference to all the extra curricular activity that went on after the day's play was finished at the DuMaurier in '95 at the Hunt Club, and he wasn't referring to a number of ladies who rented ice time and played hockey.
Give him credit for talking about the differences between cast and forged iron heads for about 60 seconds, suggesting that all players would be better off with a forged cavity back iron. I suppose that the profit margins are higher on these clubs.
It was refreshing to find out that the 19th Tee was open and that I could pay less money for more balls to people who appreciate my business, instead of expecting it.
Perhaps those who lack knowledge, understanding, tolerance, consideration, empathy and respect, are the ones "batting from the other side."
