Your Thoughts on Grips

I know that we've covered this before, but new models etc. come out all the time soooooooo........

The re-grip season is upon us and I want to get my new Nike Slingshots re-gripped, but before I do so I'd like to get your opinions on grips.

I'll start off by saying that I'm a GP Multi-decade guy but they are still among the most expensive grips out there and I can't help but think that I can get the same (or close to the same) performance for less money.

The most important grip characteristics for me are:

Non-slip in humid/wet conditions
Easy on the hands/gloves

Color etc. doesn't factor in for me.

With all that said, what grips do you play, how do they perform in humid/damp conditions and would you re-grip with the same ones again?

I'm a big fan of the new decade multicomopound grips... or tour velvet full cords...

check golfworks, i think their 5$ish for the newdecades, and they have new colours this year :P i think you should get the pink ones bro.. suits you well :P

or the lampkin dual densitys... they are pretty much what your looking for, easy on the hands and golves, and good in all conditions.. the only down side is they are green (yuk!)

I still think the best grip out there is the V55 full cord, they just get better and better the more you use them i find.

Jarred - Closer to $8ish a grip for the New Decades, but I'll cut you some slack given your new responsibilities etc......:P :P

and they keep the club in your hand when your swingin' like a maniac to hit those 300 yarders eh John :P

oops... my bad, listening to a lecture at the same time, didnt notice the US site I types in Golfworks Canada in google... ok from now on I'm gonna pay more attention to everything around here and what I'm doing

Me swing like a maniac, come on now Jarred. I pound it out there while all the while looking buttery smooth.

I am no expert on grips but I know what I like. I play a lot of golf as you all know. :pig
For the past 4 years I have always played with GP Tour Velvets. They clean easily (Simple Green) they seem to be fine in hot damp weather. In rain if you carry a dry towel they dry off easily.
The last, I had them on my old set of irons and cleaned them constantly with Simple Green, then water then air dry. I played over 300 rounds on that one set of grips. You can not beat that for money spent.
I recently regripped and went to Mid Size Velvets because my fingers are getting some arthritis in them. The mid size just feels better to me.
I have also had V55 cords, nice grips, hard on gloves for me at least. Plus I noticed in wet weather I did not like them as much as the Velvets.
JMO. As I said I am not an expert on grips since I tend to find what I like and stick with it.

Lamkin's got some of the best prices out there. Great grips too. I use them on all my clubs.

I am a golfpride tour velvet guy.. Still the best grip out there in my opinion.. And they are cheap. I get a year out of them.

I decided to play the Guinea Pig on this one - I've opted for the Sharpro version of the GP New Decade Multicompounds.......I'll let you know what I think

Great grips. RIBBED too. Keeps your fingers in the same position.

I too love the GP multidecade compound grips.

the best non-slip grips will be corded....but they are not that easy on your glove.

V55 cord as stated are nice but the chevron is a PITA to align and I like logo down and the ones I have installed are ribbed....

I have recently tried the Star Sidewinder grips and these are really nice...tacky , yet firm and seem to be ok in the humidity.....at about $3 a grip they are the best grip for the $$ out there IMO

Tacki Mac and Sharpro have grips vaguely similar to the GP Multi well the Tacki is and they are quite innexpensive....niot as good a quality but if you change grips every 30 -50 rounds as you should,,,, they will last

Also the Lambkin G3 ...1/4 cord was a good grip not sure if it is still made but I bought several dozen a while back on clearance for a buck each very decent

i like classics:

GP tour velvet (normal on woods, cord on irons)
Lamkin crossline (wedges)
winn (only for putter, BAD for everything else)

I couldn't agree more. Anything I buy has Lamkin's installed. If it's already gripped, it gets regripped before I ever swng it.

I'm becomming a big Winn fan. Love them for my putters and also like the Excel for my irons/woods. Just love how nice they feel in my hands.

I use Kelmac tour wrap style grips, 8 for $12 at GolfTown.

Lamkin is #1 in my books. I love the Crossline Dual Density [was green, now blue].
This is the model without the torsion control strips > a little too ugly for my liking.

My current set has the Crossline Classic and Crossline Classic Sof-Cord [all black].

I am getting my grips redone and was wondering what does the tour velvet full cord feel and the new decades multicompound like i have never tried a cord grip before so was wonderin what their like. second was wonderin how many wraps of griptape i should use as i have big hands( medium/large)

Comments, opinions, etc welcome....Interesting thread, just now reading it as I will get my full set re-done before going to MB in April. Have a set of TM Rac OS, new in June 2005. They have about 100 rounds on them and I don't detect much if any wear but it seems the common thinking is to change every year (60 rounds) or so. Couple of questions based on past comments. I note that Golf Bum washes his grips. I never have. I don't play in bad weather so the only time they get wet and overly dirty is by accident. I also use shaft savers. I am also up-sizing as the local pro says my grips are too small, so going mid size. I too have arthritis and joint issues, with sore wrists later in the season, golfer's elbow and arthritis in both shoulders, although I cannot use that as an excuse, yet. Golf Pride makes two models, the Dual Durometer and the Whisper that are endorsed by the American Arthritis Society. I see two others, the Players Sofftie and Tour Wrap that appear to be somewhat more cushioned that the rest. Pros/cons, what's the down side, if any of having a "shock absorbing" grip.

i have always been a tour velvet cord guy, but i got lamkin crossline cords in my woods cause they didn't have TV cords and now i am thinking of switching totally to lamkins

Just incase you haven't heard - Golftown is doing their annual re-gripping sale - all grips are 50% off - $1 per club for installation... pretty good deal to get all 8 irons re-gripped for $35-$45

Thanks, I was not aware. Planning to go to Golf Works this week to have a putter fitting and try out one or two new grips before getting the whole set done. Anyone know if GT does the putter fitting? If so I'll use my gift card and save even more.
