interesting. There were some pretty cheap memberships being offered as well. Another late start to the season won't help anyone.
The Arnprior GC has been around for about 90 years, I understand, and I certainly hope that whatever difficulties that they are currently experiencing can be dealt with appropriately and that they can survive in this difficult local market. The overall course conditioning has tremendously improved in the last couple of years, thanks to their greenskeeper Steve Williams, so let's hope that local golfers will be able to continue to enjoy one of the most challenging golf courses in the Ottawa Valley.
Thanks Lyle: We are doing everything that we can do to ensure that our club is around for many years to come. Steve Williams is still our greens keeper.
Now this IS shocking news---one of the nicest tracks in the Ottawa area---I'll still make the drive from Orleans :) Hope the problems can be resolved.
So what's the story?
I really don't think it is fair to speculate when about what the story is here in this forum, when only the board of directors at Arnprior have the complete story and facts. Yes the members were briefly updated via two emails, but the details are yet to be released or discussed openly. I am sure the golf community will find out the future of the club in due time.
Just my opinion.
Not a good sign when solstrum who was one of Arnpriors biggest fans and a member switches to Mountain Creek. I only play Arnprior once or twice a year but I hope it survives. I found the conditions last year to be great.
I agree Marc.
I was on the Board until Nov. My 3 year term was complete. I didn't run again. And I have moved on. I actually quit golfing August 10th last year. I will be at Mountain Creek this year, but will really only be a casual player. The BS and Stress last year was too much.
I do believe in the very near future answers will be available.
a few members have moved on....the vibe at the end of the year was horrible. Course is less then 2 min from my house and very enjoyable to play but the politics and BS have me follwing Jason Mcgrath to Glen Mar this year.
What goes around comes around.
I like getting out to play there once or twice a year, if only to line the pockets of some of the members there :).
Nice turf and an interesting course. I hope it stays afloat.
The saga comtinues with this note sent to members today. "Offers" and "proposals"....hmmm????
Debenture Holders Meeting
Hello Everyone, This to inform the Debenture Holders of the Arnprior Golf Club of our meeting on Friday April 10, 2015 at the Arnprior Golf Club.
This meeting has been called to present the prospective offers and proposals .
Meeting will take place at The Arnprior Golf Club on April 10, 2015
Registration begins at 6:30 pm and Meeting to take place at 7 pm
There was a meeting of debenture holders last night. The AGC is heavily in debt and unable to meet its obligations. Efforts to secure loans have failed. Two local parties have made proposals to purchase the club and all its amenities (equipment, buildings, etc.) for basically the cost of paying off the debt and lawyers' fees, etc. If one or other of these proposals results in a purchase and sale, all that beautiful acreage, wood lots, etc. will be sold for a pittance (around $700 Gs). The groups interested in buying have indicated their intention to "grow" and improve the club. However, once the deed is signed over, who knows what will happen to the land. In my view, it's a calamity!
What other choice is there?
So sad for what was once a very proud Ottawa Valley Club..
Reality is, You could sell some pretty nice lots for houses overlooking the river.
Terrible news for golfers but I am certain a developer would be thrilled to take over the land.
Like the course but I suspect my one visit a year is representative of many golfers. With 3 courses servicing a small community like Arnprior, they have little chance of being sustainable in the long run. There are less golf rounds being played..golf courses will eventually follow down in the numbers.
The land across the street has lots for sale.. for years.. and still available. The two interested parties are buying a golf course with the plan of building it bigger and better. Both offers are very exciting. The AGC will continue on as the Jewel of the Ottawa Valley. A private owner with a "vested interest" is exactly what the course needs. Boards are never the answer.. trust me! ;)
This is one hell of a shame---just when the improvements on the course were starting to excite folks. Maybe the value $ per round was not enough to keep things afloat. I still think it's a great course--it's the atmosphere and the people that bring folks back (as well as course quality)
700K is nothing today---let's all hope it does not go for housing.
If it manages to stay I will still play it ----just organize my drive time better from Orleans
$700k?, my sisters house is worth more in Toronto. What a steal to whoever gets it.
Headcase.
Yeah, but that $700k comes with somewhere close to $1M in annual maintenance, salaries, taxes, etc.
Yes...and ergo...the problem...
