Would it not be smarter to say, hold onto your money until this cable turns to dust, and just purchase a new one for another $10 then?
In addition to that, look at how many different types of cables have been used over the past 10-20 years to transmit between devices. Coax, RCA, Component, VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort... Many companies are now working on the tech to broadcast FullHD wirelessly. Does anyone actually believe that their cable is going to degrade so quickly that it won't be obsolete by the time the rubber is brittle and crumbling?
Don't throw that $200 you just saved on your flat-screen back at the retail store. Save your money so that your can get screwed by Rogers or Bell later on.
