What do you think of gimmies? I dislike them for several reasons.I am kinda tired of the expected gimmie and the odd looks when it does not come. If it were up to me gimmies would be a rules violation. Putt it out. That's what were here for. I wanna hear it fall in and then pick it out of the hole.
- I always thought the object was to put the ball IN the hole
- Some think it's gentlemanly to give you a putt. I'd rather make it, or not.
- If I'd rather putt it, suddenly I'm holding up play. I came to play golf, not just walk around the green.
- Some think if they give you 3 footers, you'll return the "favour".
- Some think it's rude when I don't give a putt.
- I hate it when someone looks at me expecting me to say "It's good" when they have some work left to do.
- Even the tap in gimmie - why not tap it in? How long does that take?
- Why on earth would anyone give a putt of ANY length to tie a hole?
- I know people when playing for their handicap will just pick up within 2 feet of the hole. I say nothing, it's none of my business, but what's the deal? Do you think you've made par? NOT!
I feel the only time a ball should be picked up before holing out is if you have reached your ESC and you are out of the hole if playing a match. Taking a 12 does slow up play. That's not a gimmie anyway, it's another matter entirely.
"A gimmie is an agreement between 2 players, neither of whom can putt very well."
End of rant. Opionions?
