There is a photo proof right on the webpage that the Lx is measuring spin!
That said nobody knows how well it works yet. But Martin's products does work you may have to have some patience and be ready to do some fiddling yourself.

Not trying to offend anyone
A number in a video is not proof, see Zelocity.
I want the LX to work. I am not keen on tweaking, don't expect to teach a dog how to bark.....rather pay for one that knows.
Know what you mean but you can't compare. We are talking about the actual photo that the spin gets calculated from.
You can even say that Martin shows how the spin is calculated. You can even check the numbers yourself from the photo!
For all you know GC2 might have licensed the Zelocity look up tables!:)
I also get it with the tweaking but it does have it's advantages too.
You can use a cheaper golf ball for simulator and simulate the preferred ball or even like I do use a limited flight golf ball. Or simulate the ball flight out of rough and bunkers while hitting of the normal surface.
Boost up the ball speed for some or all clubs so kids can have a little fun playing.
yes can see all that. Ball flight from rough and bunkers is an issue. Still getting to know the GC2 but in display it has "lie - fairway 100%" but bunker and rough are also 100- I have presumed it can be changed somewhere but have not looked.
still cant replicate the feel so dont know if I will bother looking.
The gc2 software does have a boost but I have not looked at it yet.
Just as a quick note, a system can directly measure spin, but may not be as accurate as other systems (especially those at a higher price point).
For example, Accusport Vector directly measures spin by taking photos of the ball in two places and uses the same method as the LX (marking / line on the ball). While this can give you a direct measurement of spin, if the lines are read poorly (or sometimes not at all), then the spin measurement can be off.
The proof usually comes down to testing and even testing is subjective (hence why I am still looking for a swing robot that doesn't cost a fortune and take up an entire room :)).
Happy Golfing!

LX is still unknown. The Golf Achiever doesn't measure spin but is probably ok. They do tend to break down easy from what I know.
Until it has been tested and verified, you just can't say for sure.
No, the LX will not be a Zelocity Tracker. But Like most of GGS's camera systems, it will probably require a ton of time, effort, and understanding to set it up and dial it in. But you will still have the limitations of just one image after impact. The other image is of the ball on the tee before impact. And as Cory said, this might affect the consistency and accuracy of the measurements.
I thought that he did a double exposure of the ball in flight with the strope light? Two ball image on the same frame?
This is from the Lx web page.Quote:
The LX launch monitor captures two images of the ball during the first moments of it's flight.
Image processing detects ball spin rate and spin axis, ball launch angle, path and speed.
if I understand right it makes creates two ball images in the same frame with the help of the strobe light. Guess it is cheaper with a fast strobe than a fast camera.
Statements on his site have been known to be misleading. Using a strobe effect and the right camera can give you multiple captures of the ball after impact but that is not what I'm seeing in the images posted in the LX setup page.
Here is what I'm seeing. There's an image of the ball on the tee and another image of the ball after impact. The composite is basically the two images overlapped. The ball on the left is the only one after impact. In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.
It looks like they've pushed the ship date out from August to September and extended the "introductory" price till November.
Reminds me of a song from a long gone NZ band-Split Enz
"History never repeats, I tell myself before I go to sleep "
ZMax: I see what you mean on the last photos on the web page it clearly shows the tee!
I guess we will see what he uses when it comes out one day!
Still waiting to see what Martin finally ends up producing. He has introduced a line scan camera into the system - it will trigger the other camera(s) when the club moves the ball. Gets rid of the trigger matt (woo hoo). If it ever ships, I'll be able to use it with my own matt. Right now I am waffling between the contry club elite and the True strike as my matt of choice.
My birthday is november 3 - maybe it will be a gift to myself.

I have both mats -go the truestrike mat
CPA
Thank you.
CPA, I too have been waffling between hitting mats (need a 3'x5' to fit the space the way I want) and want either a mat system that can do both fairway and rough turf feel (or 2 separate mats, if it comes to that). The three I've been considering the most are the Fiberbuilt, Country Club Elite and TrueStrike. It doesn't appear that TrueStrike has a rough turf panel, nor a 3'x5' model available.
What are the plusses / minuses between these mats, in your opinion?
Country Club Elite is excellent. If you hit it fat you will know. Very durable - even with all of my fat hits! Tees can just be stuck in but if you want to vary the height there are also holes to put in the friction tee holders. I've hit off of mats with rough panels, they are nothing like real rough so don't use that as the only factor.
Thanks HRS, I haven't been able to find any "turf mats" around here and there don't seem to be too many offerings for them. One of the reasons I've been so indecisive on what mat to go with (at least initially, I'm sure down the road there will be "other mats" - lol).
Anyone have any updates on this? I am still waiting to hear back from Martin on the release date.
Martin site says production the week after next!
Martin has been saying the week after next for two months.
Almost two weeks since Martin last updated site. Anyone got info on how testing went?
Here is Martin's latest update. It would be really interesting for some of the gc2 guys to chime in.

GSA LX development
LX comparison with other well-known launch monitor
Many have asked us how the LX compares with a certain other launch monitor on the market today that sells for around $7000 so we did some basic comparison tests.
As many believe this other product is the ultimate in accuracy and perfection, we were just as eager to see how the LX fairs in the face of such engineering excellence.
The first very basic test was to see what happens when the ball is topped. The product in question - selling at over 3 times the LX's price - would pass this very basic test with flying colors we obviously assumed.
Far from it though. What happened - and what we could reproduce over and over again - was that the ball in the software flew a near perfect 10 degree launch angle with some 8000 rpm back spin and just a hint of a fade.
Hey! The real ball launched off the tee with a negative launch angle with top spin - i.e. hit the ground - and hit the bottom of the screen. Assuming that this particular unit was defect or not setup correctly we moved over to another bay - we did the tests in a well known golf store with 4 bays - but the results were the same.
We then tried another series of tests to see how the product will detect slices and hooks. Over 100 shots were made with massively open and closed club face angles and all we could achieve were slight pushed, pulled, fades and draw shots. Not a hook or slice in sight.
To us this product - apart from being outrageously expensive - is way too forgiving for anyone working on fixing their hook or slice as they will be delighted to see that these faults miraculously disappear with this system.
We were hoping that we could use this product as a reference for our own tests with the LX but after the failure of these basic tests those hopes have now been abandoned.
We thus question this product manufacturers claims to be anywhere near accurate. The LX - by the way - has no problem in detecting topped shots, slices or hooks.
In addition, the LX shows photographic evidence of the ball in flight to prove it. An LX user can thus simply verify our claims of accuracy whereas there doesn't seem to be anyway of doing this with this other product.
More comparison tests to come.
Very interesting! I assume he means the GC2. CPA and others can you provide a rebuttal?
"Not a hook or slice in sight"
this bloke must not be talking about the GC2!!!!!
I just hit 25 balls with massive open and closed and topped and the GC2 was perfect on every one.
edit; on a topped shot the ball bounced before the screen hit the screen on the down and then appeared exactly at that spot on the screen and bounced in sync with what it would have done!
CPA.. Can u adjust your LM so it can be as off as Martin emplies? If so, is it a little adjustment or so much that you could never let it happen?
Has Martin lost it?
I suck at golf and have hit on a GC2. It (sadly) very reliably picked up shanks, hooks, slices, tops and fat shots. I have done this into a net and on the range watching the real ball and the simulated ball do the same thing. I really want the LX to be successful, to have a similarly great product at a third of the price. Maybe he has developed it but I think he must have been testing against an Atari 2600, not a GC2.
At least the Atari 2600 got in to production.
the gc2 is non adjustable (only shot boost in the redchain software....to encourage kids?)
it is designed that way for noobs and that is a strong factor in its favor. It works straight out of the box.
Ah, the old Atari 2600!!!!!
Thanks CPA. Can't wait to see his next comparison. Did a quick search for $7,000 LM's only see GC2.
Martin would not have gone far---Naples Florida

only has 2 bays and certainly not GC2's

"Well known store".......new Golfsmith -Location of new store: 6428 Hollywood Blvd., Naples, FL 34109
The new store features 3Trak 3-D golf simulators, 6 hitting bays
..........cost of AG Studio?????
I don't trust the simulators in the big box stores for doodle.
AG Studio is $12000. I am sure he is meaning the GC2. I think the track record of the GC2 speaks for itself!
Perhaps the ones that he tested had the wait for spin turned off? All the GC2's that I've used had no problem showing the various ball flights. Maybe he was talking about the Zelocity Tracker??
