hey cory did you get this st1 brochure I got it but I cant get it to post how bout some help!!! good to hear from you if we could just hear from cdg(lol)
Thanks
somebody try the link and see if it works if it doesnt I m remodeling so Ill have to try again later pdf file is large and OG wont let me upload it.
Works fine and looks great. I wonder what software upgrades dd are planning. Cory can you give us your thoughts as to why Optishot are so tight lipped about their product upgrades? other companies let you know what to expect whereas with dd you are always in the dark. Why is that?
Whewww, thought I wasnt holding my mouth right, never had trouble publishing anything to web before but that pdf just didnt want to load anywhere.:-)
Looks nice even more exciti:-)ng
BALC- The Photos on the Brochure look like the OLD GPS golf right? They seem pretty 90ish graphics(trees).
Also Where are the Ball sensors? On the left side of the sensor mat (opposite of the tapered end) behind the ball I see two rows of sensors, assuming those are clubhead sensors, but on the other end I don't see any?
I must say that the ST-1 is looking AMAZING! That would be cool if the price lowered a little for the packages.
Eventually I believe DD will have a full practice area like that. They just need the hardware too!
Par2Pro- Yeah why is that Dancin Dogg doesn't announce anything to anybody?
Last week I have requested a driving range feature for 3DD and DD wrote back that it will be in development soon. Furthermore, they wanted to know which specific features this driving range should offer. Since I never have used a virtual driving range before (except Launchpad LPDR and DD Practice Zone) I have no idea what features would be nice for this. Maybe some kind of statistics or visual feedback of the clubhead would be interesting? (I know my ideas are stolen from the Practice Zone)
I hope more experienced simulator golfers like you have better ideas. So my question to you:
What would be specific features for the 3DD driving range, which you would like?
I think it is great that DD cares about customer wishes and provides a possibility to request features. By the way, I have asked them if it is okay to bring up this question in the forum, since the information policy of a company is a delicate matter.
I will make a summary of your ideas for the driving range and send it to DD, although I can imagine that they are reading this thread too.
You might want to take a look at the PDF brochure balc posted for the ST-1. It has a couple screenshots and some info on their virtual driving range. It looks like it can accumulate statistics by club, which would be cool.
The screenshots in that brochure do look like the old GPS Golf, so we'll wait to hear how the new one looks. One thing that is clear though is that GPS Golf has a LOT more options than GSA Golf for configuration, driving range features, etc. I think GPS Golf looks like a much better product for clubfitting or focused practice (with the statistics you get in the virtual range) whereas GSA Golf currently (based on the GPS graphics I've seen to date) is a bit more exciting for playing a virtual round. Keep in mind GSA Golf is still a much newer product, so they have a lot of features they'll need to add over time.
The turf on the ST-1 looks different than what I was expecting. It seems a bit more similar to the DD than it does to the Pro 7 or GGS mats (that have the tall-standing fiberbuilt grass). It's hard to tell for sure from the picture though...we'll wait for the complete review from you next week balc!
Okay, so I have tried different balls on DD. The almost balls on foam setting appear to travel about 10% more than real balls on real setting. The distance I get is about what I would like to have but it is probably more realistic with real balls. Forget almost balls on real ball setting unless you want 350 yard drives:lmfao
On another note what black material are people using for around the impact screen?
The pad on the ST-1 does look to be thinner than the pro 7. But is looks like a good sim for the price. If only I hadn't spent 5 grand getting the garage ready and for the net, projector, screen, turf, dd etc!
I was told that the PDF was started picture wise with the supplied gps software the new gps will be included with st1. Brochure really wasn't ready to be released but I pestered him till he sent me what he had. So take screen shots as example only. I really like the practice area with club print out feature. Hope all is well and look foward to reviewing the st1 also I was told top was supposed to be same as pro7
Exciting stuff balc. The practice features and analysis tools in GPS Golf definitely exceed GSA Golf, so that looks very cool.
For anyone interested, I put together an overview document showing what I developed for my Golftek-GSA interface. Some of it might be hard to follow when you can't see how it interacts with GSA Golf, but you can take a look if this stuff interests you:

Very impressive, RDH. Good on you! I have to admit, though, I'm not much of a techie. I'm more into the realism factor of golf.
I think sometimes it is not a good idea to tell the consumer what's coming. Look at how impatient everyone is waiting for the ST-1. When they dangle the donut in front of us we want to bite!
Psace the black border material is from a tent and awning store. I think it is a nylon like cordura material. Gives good contrast to the impact screen. How are you liking the dd thus far? Nice that you can adjust the settings on dd. Hopefully the next update will have a driving range and allow us to keep some stats and data. It would be nice for the dd to also estimate ball speed as the p3pro does. I do think that Cory is right about the accuracy of the dd not being the best however it is reasonable. Unfortunate that they are not thinking about some sort of a ball sensor. That is why I am probably going to switch to the st1. Hitting balls with the dd and the vector is still a great experience. As rdh said, there are 2 golf seasons, "Summer and Simulator". Impressive work rdh.
UPDATE-
There might be some amazing things going on with another simulator and software. Have been talking to a couple companies...
RDH- I need to get a data sample of the string your system shoots out. Is it in CSV format (number comma number ect..) ?
Do people care if the courses are real or not or do you just want to play something? I personally don't care, it's all the same to me. Is around $250 for 10 courses good?
Golfun what are you brewing? Give us some details.
golfun - The Pro7 feeds in data through a serial port (or USB port with a converter) so it's in a bit more of a raw format than CSV (you have to read the incoming bytes and parse them out to pull out the club angle, ball path, launch angle, et.). From there you could save it to CSV or whatever format you need though.
Bubba, thanks for responding. I feel like I am a year behind everyone.
I think I will go with black cordura for the surround of the impact screen as it is quite inexpensive and good for stray shots. As for DD, I am very happy. I shot a respectable + 13 tonight so am getting closer to my 10 handicap. I don't know if I need launch angle because I know my shots are higher than normal, somewhat like Tiger's. As for ball spin I can tell that by whether I hit a fade or a draw and what distance my shot travels. It would be nice to see a shot spin back on the green, however. I find the turf for DD pad intimidates me as I like a thick lush fairway to hit from and not a tight lie.
A practice range would be terrific if it had flags at different distances and if it had a putting, chipping, sand trap practice area.
RDH- Is there any docs you could send me? Did Golftek give you anything?
Golfun fill us in on what you are brewing up.
Golfun's as bad as DD for not giving out details on what he's working on! :)
I'm just talking right now about another golf simulation software with a couple companies. Just finding out details so I don't want to start getting the hype up just yet.
RDH- Do you have any docs thou you could send me?
By a chance does anyone know how to receive input from the DD through it's USB cable? I will talk to them about that too. There are a couple ways the DD could work too.
I have the developer toolkit documents from Golftek but I can't just give those out. You shouldn't need them at this point anyway - so long as you know the device input comes through the serial port and can be interpreted to read the different values (club angle, club path, etc.) and then either written to a file or directly submitted to another API, that should give you enough to determine if the Pro 7 would be compatible.
DD is much more complex. They don't have an API and don't plan to release one (I asked them that). It's not as simple as a serial port interface. I tried installing a "USB port monitor" application to watch the data coming in from the DD, but I couldn't get anything readable. The other problem is that the DD unit has to receive a signal from the application first to put it into the mode to receive a shot. When I first hooked it up to the USB port monitor and took some swings, nothing came in. I had to open up 3DD golf and get to the tee (i.e. ready for a shot) where 3DD then sent a signal to the device to put it in active swing mode. Once that happened, my USB port monitor got a signal upon swinging...but like I said I couldn't see anything meaningful that I could read or interpret.
I would assume the ST-1 will submit a signal similar to the Pro 7.
That's nice that Golftek is giving the necessary software for other companies to use. That is fine then.
I thought Dancin Dogg did give some kind of API or info on how to use their simulator with other devices. Weren't they going to integrate it too with a camera system from another company? I remember reading an article like that.
The dd integration was with a videoanalysis and the practice zone.

Im new to this site. I have read every thread over the past 2 days and feel like I already know most of ya'll. Yes im from texas. ive never been part of a forum before but have read many and this one really sounds like one id like to be a part of and without this site, my 60+ hours of research that i have already accrued, would be much greater, so thank you to all who have contributed! Now down to business. I am a 1.3 handicap and know i could get better if i had the place to practice. i live an hour from the closest course, cause i live in the boonies, and they have no driving range. the most practice i get is at the pga tour superstore over an houvr away. its close to where i work, so i go there on lunch break. they have the aboutgolf simulator but they dont like you to practice on it unless you are interested in buying a club. im in there several times a week, so they put me on a 15 minute time limit. With the cold winters and rain that keeps me cooped up in the house on the weekends, ive been going nuts. Ya'll know what i mean! Its finally pushed me over the edge to look into a sim. After many hours of research, ive ordered a 14'x28' steel building to accomodate my sim in which i plan to project an image of 10'x12' with a short throw, 3000 lumen, xga projector with hdmi. Today i bought a new hp cq5320f desktop with 3g of ram and windows7 64 bit. I plan on getting the gt220 video card. Im going build my stance mat from a 4x6 piece of recycled rubber thats 1" thick from tractor supply for $40 and top it with artificial grass. Ive looked carefully at the screen at the pga tour superstore, and it appears to be a thick polyester screen with a mesh nylon net behind it. The polyster is stretched tight and secured on 3 sides by velcro. Its a stretchable material so real balls dont bounce back and its very quiet. Im still looking for the materials to build it. Please, if anyone has any comments or suggestion about this setup, i would appreciate the feedback. Sorry for the novel but ive been holding it in, but finally found a place where people seem to care about golf and sims
Welcome Marine 1. Sounds like you are well on your way. Make sure your impact screen is not too tight as bouncing balls really hurt. Loose is better than tight. Are you hitting real balls or limited flight balls? Brusht ball is very good limited flight ball. You are in my handicap range so the real question is what sim are you going with. As u have read there is + and - with every sim. Question is how much do u want to spend. The dd is reasonable start however I really want them to develop a ball sensor or something to detect the launch.Next for me is the st1 which is coming out now. Very exciting. For now I have the dd and a vector which is a good combo. Too bad the dd couldn't use the vector numbers generated. Don't u play all year down in Texas. 1 hour to the nearest golf course. Where the heck r u.
Good to hear from you bubba2. DD is the only real choice for me, at least until i hit the lottery. lol. My setup is currently in progress and has a ways to go still. I needed a storage building to begin with, so I just decided to order an extra long one and put my dd sim at one end of it. I research everything to death so I will get everything right the first time and this forum has been great. I definitely dont want the balls coming back at me and so I really like the idea of the almostballs that you use, although I would like an impact screen just in case I ever change my mind or in case my brother and my father want to use real balls. I also have a 12 year old son who still has a real chance at a future in golf and he may want to use real balls and I want them all to have that choice. As far as year round golf down here, I wish! I live close to oklahoma and although the winters are nothing like Canada, our winters still get pretty cold. We even got 18 inches of snow in 2 days last winter. The closest course like i said is about an hour away, and they wont allow us on the course if the temperature is below 45f. Anyway I wanted to thankyou for being there for all the guys and lending us your advice.
No problem. Lots of info on the forum. The dd is a good sim. Hopefully dd will expand their product. New updates are coming from the software aspect. You should try the brust t ball. They are better than the almost balls. Also look a the accusport cobra vector monitor. Used on ebay for around $400. It gives launch angle and ball speed. Too bad dd couldn't use the info for the sim. You will be happy with the dd. Your projector, computer and mat are very good and should work well.
