Who has two thumbs and is losing in the first round?
THIS GUY!!!!!
My buddy asked me if I wanted to go to that concert. Not a concert guy, and that is the complete opposite of my music.
I can't do Saturdays now that I think about, my oldest has ballet. So, an early early Sunday morning would probably work, let me plant the seed today lol.
What about Sorcier, do you like that track? On EG, it's a great deal at $40 and no restrictions.
Any first round matches arranged yet?
Yes, I think Ruskie and I are playing the 24th
Pretty quiet this year...Anyone play their matches or when are they scheduled?
I think goinglow and I are playing stonebridge on the 27th. Would have Played it today if I was able to join you guys. Wanna give me some tips on his game Scott??? :)
OK, sorry.....it's been a little busy the last couple of weeks....
Sorcier is great - for sure we can go there.
How about Sunday June 6th? There is an "after noon" restriction for Le Sorcier though........
We can get a foursome on the go......
I can possibly do this coming Monday - Victoria day.......

Don't have a tee time yet, but planning on going to Montebello in the morning. Wanna join us?
Oh, and I'm officially "Ruskie" now :=)
Oy, that's like twice as far as I'd like to go IM.
Thanks Will, I was hitting it good today, musta been the company......luck of the Irish....
XTOUR and I will be playing pretty shortly, it looks like he wants to get it out of the way (perhaps because his handicap is still high, and he's holding off entering all of this seasons scores? ;) ) lol
Perhaps this weekend or sometime early next week. Man this week is golf PACKED for me, Im loving it.
Tim (OutoftheRough) and I will be playing our match tomorrow morning at Viex Moulins. Should be interesting. This warm weather should result in some hefty drives.
Just to clarify, we use the handicap factor, not course handicap, right?
I think you do use the course handicap, this is from the matchplay rules.
I'm new to competition though, so can someone explain this to me? Lets say hypothetically that two players were playing in the singles matchplay competition, one with a 12 handicap, and one with a 17 handicap. How would the giving of strokes work? Let's also say the slope of the course was 113 to take out the calculation of the course handicap, does this mean that for the first 5 holes, the player with 12 handicap is given stroke on each one, and the remaining holes are played normally?Quote:
A player’s Course Handicap is determined by multiplying a Handicap Factor by the Slope of the course / tee combination played and then dividing by 113. The resulting figure is rounded off to the nearest whole number (.5 or more is rounded upward)
The lowest handicap player out of all competitors in a match will play as a scratch golfer (i.e. no strokes on any hole). Each other player will be awarded as many strokes (1 or 2 per hole) as per the difference between their handicap and the "scratch golfer's" handicap. 100% of the handicap difference will be used. 2 strokes per hole max.
I also have no idea how the team match play is done. That one confuses me even more lol.
The strokes are applied on the 5 most difficult holes. On the scorecard, each hole will have a corresponding handicap number (1 thru 18), 1 being the most difficult, 18 being the easiest. For the example you've given, the strokes would be applied on the holes with handicaps 1 thru 5. Does that explanation make sense?
Ahh makes sense yes. So that's singles, how does team matchplay work? I quickly googled and found one explanation where each team alternates shots. I'm guessing this is what we're using? God I hope my teammates drives are on that day, haha.
normally there is a calculation based on slope rating of the course. But it normally comes out to the same amount of strokes as per each competitors hdcp.
We use the course handicap. I prefer the blue tees, so the handicap will work out slightly different depending on which tees you feel comfortable playing. If you want to play the blues with me, then you get 8 strokes, if you prefer the whites then you'll get 5 strokes. We'll discuss in the morning.
Last year everyone that I played did the calculations, but it is pretty simple as I have found out.
Good luck and see you in the AM.
Tim
Course handicap is used. If both players are on the same tee it works out to the same thing.
For team matchplay, all players play their own ball on each hole and the lowest score in a team is compared to the lowest score of the other team, the lowest score wins the hole. Strokes are allocated off the lowest handicapper. For example, if the lowest handicapper is a 10 and the other 3 players are 11,12,13 then on a average diffculty course the other three players will each get 1,2,3 strokes respectively on the corresponding most difficult holes.
No problem, at least that is how we are playing it here.
I'm still waiting to play my match with Hacker, the longer he waits the better for him i suppose because my cap keeps dropping. but i'm getting better. . . . so not sure if that really benefits him :scratchch
I think I have one final question: are we allowed to use GPS?
Yes, and rangefinders but not if they read elevations.
Also GPS on phones are OK but no checking the weather online or calling your swing coach for advice during the match. :-)
In what was, overall, an ugly round of golf, I managed to eek out a victory over Tim (OutOfTheRough) on the 18th hole. Neither of us played particularly well, and I was down 4 after 12 holes (and, quite frankly, was getting tired of seeing him walk 90 yards past me to hit his second shot). With only two holes left where I was getting strokes I figured I was done for. But, I somehow managed to win 5 of the remaining 6 holes, to take what can only be described as a perplexing victory. Thanks to Tim for a fun round, and for putting up with a couple too many Xs.
I really don't feel like playing a course I've never played before. And I think playing on our home course is a no-no. Your home course i guess is Marshes? Mine would be Meadows. So taking those two out of the equation, I wouldn't mind Manderley, Greensmere, Chateau Cartier, Vieux Moulins, Champlain or even (gulp) Loch March because i've played them a couple of times. Do any of the courses I just mentioned interest you?
Jon the pleasure was mine for a fun and interesting round today. I was not happy with my round today but it's golf, it happens. Today I did have a total of 39 putts, and it did come down to the 18th hole, where we were all square.
I hit driver to the middle of the fairway with 185 left to the middle, I pull my 6 iron that i've been hitting great all day. What do I do...... Miss hit and put it OB. Drop and hit another one to 15ft approx. I ended up 2 putting.
Jon previously hit over the trees but thinks he is short and OB so plays a provisional. To his and my surprise he is okay in the trees and safe, then chips out to inside 10ft and makes the putt.
There is always next year!! But at least my 90 isn't going to affect my cap, unless I keep it up! LOL.....
Good Luck in the next round!!
Tim
